Any pundit who is criticizing Pres. Zelenskyy's attire is failing to read the room, but moreover, they're just completely missing the point.

A country and its leader under immediate and existential threats have no time for suits and neckties.

He has no visible rank or medals or nametapes or epaulets or brass buttons or starched creases. He's wearing what women and men who are fighting on the frontlines in Ukraine are wearing.

He's wearing the urgency of the moment.

That's the point.

@charlotteclymer "He's wearing the urgency of the moment" is the perfect way to describe it.
@charlotteclymer
Anyone doing that just tells us they arenโ€™t serious and just being ๐Ÿ’ฉ. Not worthy of being paid attention to.
@tibbi @charlotteclymer
One twitter'er, a minor celebrity now, even goes by the name of 'Cat Turd.' And wants to be taken seriously? I guess it's a kind of troll proofing - trying to 'own' someone who already calls themselves a POS
@charlotteclymer Exactly! A big point I think he's making is that they have been in a state of active war for most of this year--and are determined to win it. (And they need help, which is why he's here)
@charlotteclymer So right. That's why General Ulysses S Grant wore a coarsely-woven private's uniform with just his rank on the shoulder.
@charlotteclymer LMFAO at anyone commenting on his clothes.
@charlotteclymer AMEN. Also, for all the armchair fashionistas out there, please explain why this was getting a pass: https://static01.nyt.com/images/2022/12/21/multimedia/21onpolitics-sbf-1-e87a/21onpolitics-sbf-1-e87a-articleLarge.jpg
@ringuette @charlotteclymer yes yes yes! These same idiots are prob that same people that dumped gobs of money into this SpongeBob character.
@ringuette @charlotteclymer grifting and grafting doesn't have a dress code, it seems tan suits and combat ready clothing titillate people that don't have anything else to point against people fighting for a better world.
@ringuette @charlotteclymer Who would send money to that guy? What could go wrong?
@charlotteclymer I honestly think most of them know exactly what message the outfit sends, and it bugs them that it's effective.
@charlotteclymer
What he's wearing IS a business suit. His business is fighting for his country's life.
@charlotteclymer If he wore a suit and tie, they'd criticize him for that. I remember what happened when Cesar Chavez showed up in a suit and tie.
@charlotteclymer @meshaiman Hoo boy. I can just imagine what that scene was like.

@charlotteclymer

Great way of putting it โ€œHeโ€™s wearing the urgency of the momentโ€.

@charlotteclymer not to mention heโ€™s wearing the exact same thing since the war started. Itโ€™s, in part, branding.
@chris @charlotteclymer He spiffed up a bit. It's a clean long-sleeve pullover rather than the T he's more often been seen in. I wondered after yesterday's news what he'd wear, and this works.
@roadskater @charlotteclymer I'm gonna be honest I saw an image and saw him in green and just assumed it was a t-shirt ๐Ÿ˜‚
@chris @charlotteclymer
Absolutely!! I think Zelensky's media background has really helped him to stay "on brand" since his country was invaded. I really admire his consistency.
@charlotteclymer
Anyone who thinks they can do Zelenskyy better is a fool. That bar is just impossibly high.
@charlotteclymer
I read somewhere that he promised to dress in this manner as long as Ukraine is fighting this war. He'll go back to business suits when Putin is finally defeated. He is truly representing the fact that the people he is representing are fighting for their lives.
@charlotteclymer Gym and Gaetz? Yโ€™all too, you absolute lowlifes. (Lowlives?)

@charlotteclymer Any pundit who is criticizing #Zelenskyy's attire is the same mindless jackass who bleeds ink on tan suits and lady pantsuits rather than paying attention to some actual news or policy.

#blockthem
#mockthem

@MKSinSA @charlotteclymer

I think Senators should be required to wear Togas, just like the originals.

@charlotteclymer Also, he is not wearing any sort of camouflage, which distances his attire from that of crazy 1970s dictators, which I also thought was in good taste.
@charlotteclymer They're not doing either of those. It's a willful and shameless attack because these are people who would rather oppose ANYTHING that Democrats are in favor of than have any morals or ethics of their own to stand on.
@charlotteclymer I noticed this too and I agree with you. With the advent of war on the doorstep, whatโ€™s more of a proclamation that something is wrong when the leader of the country wears dress-down military fatigues to meetings with other world leaders. Itโ€™s a public statement and it works.

@charlotteclymer

They should be embarrassed for even bringing up what he is wearing.

@charlotteclymer the personification of bravery and leadership
@charlotteclymer @ernie Exactly this. Itโ€™s messaging, โ€œbrandingโ€, but it is very effective. (And the pundits complaining about it who donโ€™t also say they recognize its messaging value are either naive, stupid, or lying.)
@charlotteclymer I loved that - noticed it right away & read exactly that in his attire. ๐Ÿ’š
@charlotteclymer ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฟ
I'm floored by the disrespect ๐Ÿ˜ญ
@TheViking @charlotteclymer
How was this not expected? I mean, ya, call it out.
@TheViking @charlotteclymer Ahhh - Jim Jordan, Ohioโ€™s homage to the unmade bed. Such an embarrassment to so many of us Ohioans. And probably his mother. @charlotteclymer Youโ€™ve summed up my feelings, exactly! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
@charlotteclymer
I hate that this country is so hung up on what people wear.
WTF
@charlotteclymer Very well said. Thatโ€™s what theyโ€™re complaining about now? Oh, ridiculous. If some people canโ€™t find significant fault with an important event like this, they have to stoop to the lowest level, just in order to complain. Reminds me of a certain tan suit. Do they realize how petty and laughable they look? And jealous because this was a meeting between 2 respectable leaders, not one between a leader and an orange buffoon.
@charlotteclymer I find it strange, however have not criticised. I made a post anout it and the responses were all in support of him with sound reasons why he is not wearing a suit. I can see why, it pays to consider others views.

@charlotteclymer

Iโ€™d be willing to bet that criticisms of his attire are not being made in good faith.

@ernie

โ€ฆheโ€™s also working remote so, hall passes all around.

@charlotteclymer if he had worn a suit, they would criticize him for that as well. Their arguments are whatever they need them to be.
@charlotteclymer he could wear a Speedo for all I care- the man is a hero in my book and has more balls than all the GOP in the House and the Senate put together
@charlotteclymer let's face it, republicans and their lackeys are serious bottom feeders, completely uninterested in Any civility, ethics and morals.
The only thing left is to call an exorcist for them and pray it works.
@charlotteclymer Seems like a bonkers thing to be concentrating on..
@charlotteclymer jeez, he's come from an active war zone. Put down on your dress code ideas.
