Dude just stubbled upon “fuck ‘round, find out” ~ the French digital minister 😂🤣😂

Correction: they are not the French digital minster...this is what I get for not looking him up myself..he "is a French National Gendarmerie officer , scientist and essayist. He specializes in the fight against cybercrime and is second in command of the gendarmerie in cyberspace."

@KimCrayton1 came here to correct you on that.

Even though he is not in the government, this is a pretty serious guy 🙊 Way scarier curriculum than the actual digital minister tbh 👮 🚨

@KimCrayton1 "gendarmerie in cyberspace" is my new band* name.

*"band" may be a group of heavily cyber-armed hacktivists

@KimCrayton1
You should edit your toot with that correction.
@KimCrayton1 I'm sorry ,but I have to ask: Is he single??? #ViveLaFrance
@KimCrayton1 @ericfreyss is not the French digital minister indeed, but this is an analysis several people close agree upon and a topic followed closely by everyone in that ecosystem, including @HenriVerdier
@KimCrayton1
I really like how this guy thinks!
@KimCrayton1 Oh that is hilarious. Welcome to the real end game Elmo.
@KimCrayton1 yes Éric - do it for all of us!
@fishidwardrobe @KimCrayton1
Very interesting, even if only valid for US. Which I do doubt.
@KleineMy @KimCrayton1 Tweet is apparently the French Digital Minister.
@fishidwardrobe @KimCrayton1
Oooh, yeah, EU legislation. Hopefully soon.
@KimCrayton1 @justinfagnani He's not the digital minister though, more like "chief scientific advisor for France's military police": https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89ric_Freyssinet

@tbroyer
Shrug. Still a guy that has the connections to start the relevant prosecution of necessary.
@KimCrayton1 @justinfagnani
@KimCrayton1 Similar to FOX calling itself news?
@KimCrayton1 I think #Musk doesn't have to remove the tweet, he just has to lock it, unfortunately. 🍿

@KimCrayton1 He’s free to control what is published on the site. And with control comes responsibility. Hello consequences, goodbye section 230 protections

Bravo, Elon, bravo

@KimCrayton1 Perhaps this explains why he tweeted about loosening the new policy a while ago to allow people to post their deets again.
Éric Freyssinet on Twitter

“Any attempt to remove my tweets that link to my other social media accounts, not violating any law, would actually make #twitter an editorial media, and no longer a social media platform, with civil and criminal liability for *any* illegal content therein. https://t.co/kwoFHVue43”

Twitter
@KimCrayton1 @Spindoctor enjoying it. It has geopolitical implications. But oh my.
@KimCrayton1 no problem if you use your account for hate speech, but he'll blow a fuse if it links to Mastodon

@KimCrayton1

I think Elonovich Muskyovski is finding out that this social media lark is not for him....
#elonmusk

@KimCrayton1 as I keep saying to Americans who state "Musk can do it, it's all legal":

Not in the EU child, not in the EU

@KimCrayton1 This isn't actually true
@EposVox @KimCrayton1 It's close enough to true - even for Sec 230 in the US - to keep his attorneys busy, but it's the not biggest hazard of Twitter's ban on links to Mastodon (violation of The Digital Markets Act).
@KimCrayton1 OK, so how does that apply to the fact Facebook will severely restrict the views any time you post a link on your own feed to an eCommerce site?

@deadbat I think from a legal perspective, there's a difference in suppressing a post versus deleting it outright/suspending a person for posting it.

Basically it comes down to "you (the user) have the right to say it, but we (the platform) don't have to show it to anyone." vs "you (the user) can't even say it on our platform, and if you do, we will kick you off the platform."

The first is LEGALLY ok, while the second is not.

Remember, the law is all about splitting hairs.

@KimCrayton1

@deadbat And for the record I think it's TOTALLY BS that Facebook/IG suppresses and severely restricts views on outbound links in general. It's infuriating and I hate it.

@KimCrayton1

@KimCrayton1 Is this what French law says because it's definely not what US law says
@KimCrayton1 And the French are SALTY after the football. "Give us a reason, Elon, do it!"
@KimCrayton1 I do wonder if maybe someone in legal had to call up Elmo and explain this to him.

@KimCrayton1 Maybe this will open the eyes of policymakers that any algorithmic timeline that filters your reality by a set of non-trivial* rules (and thus filters your reality and/or gaslights you, depending on how you want to see it) is editorial.

* So a timeline with posts from everyone you follow in chronological order doesn’t count even though you could technically argue that it’s an algorithm if you’re an absolute pedant about it :)

@KimCrayton1 That's @ericfreyss, that is. Worth a follow!
@simon_brooke @KimCrayton1 I am not a minister :/

@KimCrayton1 The French know how to stand up to power. When they have issues with wages, healthcare, or basic human needs that have to be addressed, they go to the streets and protest. We sit behind monitors and cry to our friends.

@KimCrayton1

Easy Emma has a habit of ignoring non-US law. He has already had problems, but it takes time to get through the processes. As actual CEO it will get personal.

@KimCrayton1 Not really, Twitter is a private company that is free to deal with competition however they wish. They are not a monopoly and disgruntled people can migrate to other platforms. We are all here on Mastodon no?

@stanford
If you reach a dominant market share with your product, you're no longer free to do-as-you-wish. Anti-monopoly law kicks in. Please consult the apropriate laws for the details.

For international business this (most likeley) includes US and EU law. Maybe even more jurisdictions depending on your market share there.

As always with legalese: It's complicated. 😀

@KimCrayton1

@PiiiepsBrummm @KimCrayton1 That much I understand, however Twitter is a far cry from being a monopoly. There’s Mastodon here where we are, Reddit, “Truth Social 🤡”, Parlor, Post and so many other competing platforms. So Twitter can do what they want at their own peril. Mastodon has already skyrocketed from 300 000 monthly active users to 2.5million just between October and November when Elon took over
@KimCrayton1 I am entertained.😂 🍿
@KimCrayton1 And yeah, the French kinda have a thing about taking down the rich-- with glee and sharo objects....
