Why? So the journalists that *are* here can show those who aren't---and their organizations---how big the audience is. What they understand is numbers.
We made #JohnMastodon happen. We can do this.
If all journalists deliberately quit Twitter and joined Mastodon the audience will eventually follow them.
By staying on twitter they are choosing to let musk have power over them.
SpaceKaren needs journalists on his platform more than journalists need SpaceKaren's platform.

I have a partial solution, I think? There's functionality to import a list of follows exported from another Mastodon account, so if you tweak the spreadsheet to format it the same way, it seems to work. Doesn't save you from paring down the list by hand, of course, if you want to do that.

I think it may take some time to process the whole thing; I've tested this only on a small subset of the list. But it worked for me.
Yeah -- it seems like what you'd want is something like the second half of Movetodon, without the twitter search part... but web apps are not my wheelhouse at all, so I wouldn't know how to separate that out.
Yes! I just tried something similar, except I just scraped all the address out from the 2nd column, dumped them into Excel, exported back out as CSV. Tried importing and it appears to have worked....standing by to see if my "following" jumps by a thousand or so...or else I get booted off with a suspension?? π¬
There is a service that was put together a few weeks ago for creating and sharing follow lists in the form of CSVs that can be imported / exported.
Doesn't appear to have taken off, but is still there.

For those interested, you can also take a look at the file format for follow and list CSVs from your Import and Export page in your settings, and could probably create and format your own CSVs off of the google doc.
Unfortunately the lack of consistency in the form entries will make that a pain. Many entries lack the domain, some of them are URLs instead of the username strings, and just in general it would all have to be cleaned up to match the CSV format.
