Human, trying to be happier

Are you on Matrix, and interested in being part of an effort to create a neighborhood-firsr local network of kiosks that function a lot like Craigslist?

I'm part of a little group of 3 exploring this idea.

Sorta like Community Memory, the first BBS.

DM me or share!

Turns out a single-person product in PHP seems like the best option.

The data structure of shelf/book/chapter/page is a bit weird for me, but it actually might be a great pairing with it's friendly interface. Giving someone (or a sub-group, committee, etc) a "book" might reduce a certain fear of engaging in editing by giving a sense of ownership or place.

A Boston news station recently interviewed a local man who had his Experian account hijacked after he'd frozen his credit with the big three consumer reporting bureaus. It's unbelievable that Experian still hasn't done jack about this problem that I've written about ad nauseum for years now. (try to ignore the many typos and grammar errors in this story).

Experian's system will allow anyone to assume control over your credit file and freeze merely by re-registering as you using your name, SSN, DoB but a different email address than the one on file. Experian has no problem approving that request, and instead of seeking approval from the existing email address and or phone number, they just say okay. Thieves can then unlock your credit, pull your file, apply for credit, etc. But they will send an automated email to the legitimate account holder's email, saying the account's email address has been changed. No "this wasn't me" option, no asking for approval. Nope. They just say hi we changed your email. Have a nice day!

Experian's response to the Boston news outlet is particularly infuriating, because they're basically saying the system operated as designed. Nevermind that the system is batshit crazy from a security in 2025 perspective.

"A spokesperson told us their protocols worked since Deyoe got that notification when his account was changed. In a written statement Experian said “Protecting consumers’ identities is among our highest priorities. We believe this is an incident of fraud using stolen consumer information.”

As a trained firefighter I'm astounded/horrified at the number of reporters not wearing masks while reporting on the fires in LA.

A good story isn't worth sacrificing your life and health to hydrocarbons and burning plastic. The average home in 2025 is so toxic while burning that it's hard to watch; far more toxic than homes historically have ever been throughout history. This is something they drilled into us deeply while training.

The cause and effect can be long term and utterly devastating. A mask is gonna save your life in the coming years, be it pandemic or flames.

Wear a mask, shower often. Wash your hands before you eat. A lot of firefighters died before we figured out those basics.

PS- if you have a paint respirator with VOC cartridges even better.

My first #music recommendation for 2025 is Gloory Hole, delightful Mexican post-punk that scratches my brain just the right way https://youtu.be/RmVjrku-r9o

How long can I go only using mac apps that I can install without the app store? Time will tell!
lol, love myself some humble documentation

I am once again wading into the deep waters of trying to figure out what wiki-esque software to use with a group of low-tech folks.

WikiJS still doesn't have watchlists or notifications..

Guessing mediawiki still follows the file management paradigm of upload>place.

Thinking I might try Drupal/backdrop..

Ugh.

Gonna poke around today for some self-hosted #POSSE tools but figure I'd toss out a #lazyweb shingle too.

Trying to help an org post to IG/X/BS/Mastodon....
