My passion is creating community through effective and compassionate communication.

I am also in the process of dedicating my life to myself.

The ASCA (Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse) community/meetings have been pivotal in my process as well as NVC (Non-violent communication)

If you or anyone you know has experienced childhood abuse please consider visiting the ASCA website. (This is not a 12-step based program.) Link below.

"Happy Xmas" everyone... "A very Merry Christmas. And a Happy New Year. Let's hope it's a good one. Without any fear"(John Lennon)

Love to all (((❤️)))

I show this bug every year to my intro entomology students to see if they can figure out what body part all that undulating spiny weirdness is.

Heteronotus sp. treehopper, Ecuador.

Mastodon has cracked the top ten social networking apps in the App Store. For context, Signal is at 15.
Everyone is asking "What's the next Twitter going to be" and bemoaning the fact that the userbase is splintering. But splintering is a GOOD thing. The internet would be a lot healthier, more diverse, in instead of 3 or 4 dominant platforms, we had dozens or even hundreds of upstarts. Yes, centralization is convenient, but as we're seeing, it's also dangerous. If the result of the Twitter turmoil is to drive people to a more diverse, less convenient, less centralized web, I say AWESOME.
I'm just demoing #Mastodon to a friend @Humeera and hoping someone can boost this so I can show how it works! (Thank you)

A kind observation that exclusively calling this place "Mastodon" has a bit similar energy as saying "I just sent a GMail."

"Fediverse" (or "fedi") is a more inclusive, general term.

Mastodon is just one of many software projects that talk to each other to create this multi-instance social network:

(kudos to @axbom for this fantastic infographic!)

There are blogs, Reddit-like communities, video instances and many more, all part of fedi.

The many branches of the Fediverse

As more and more people are asking me about Mastodon I felt a need for a picture to point at, showcasing how the software known as Mastodon fits into the much larger concept of the Fediverse. I made this infographic to help myself and others explain the many different use-cases

I'm not sure why but I don't feel like home.social is as well federated as masto.ai. I was meeting interesting and cool people there by the dozens EVERYDAY. That's not happening here. I thought that it wouldn't matter what instance one is in but apparently that's not true. Oh well that's the cool thing about de-centralization. No likey likey? Changey Changey.
When is all email going to be encrypted rather than just a specific server that encrypts the data to an email account on the same servers? How about phone calls and text messages for that matter...rather than everyone you know having to download a specific app. I'm looking forward to THAT future.

The next time you think "I have no power." Look around you. Look at all these buildings and wires and roads and machines and pocket computers. Think about all the trillions upon trillions upon trillions of ones and zeros being transmitted silently and invisibly through the air because humans intend them to. You have the same brain, you are part of the same species that made all of this. "I have no power" -> biggest lie any human has ever told themselves.

If you want to mention some name that sounds like Melon Husk. Don't. Just Don't.
