"If you see fraud, and you don't say fraud, you are a fraud." N.N. Taleb

Finally, a bio. Here are a list of interests/rabbit holes:
#comics #rpgs #sf #physics #literature #environmentalism #music #politics #anti-deathpenalty #law #photography #computers #film and that subset is all before I turned 40. Careerwise, in the last 20 years I've worked for a telecom and an insurance company in increasingly nerdy areas. #infosec is a relatively recent interest but here I am. I can't even list all the other rabbit holes I've been down. Hundreds of topics I am at least marginally informed about, can use the jargon for, semi-intelligently. I doomscroll. I also attempt to do a little creative writing. If I can do it playfully I'll be happy! Of course there's nothing playful about extinction, climate change, or any of the other impacts of human activities on life on this planet. Where's your habitat, human? #physicalmedia #negativeshelfspace #yourallyifyoullacceptme

Belief and trust, vs. thought and understanding. Discuss.
I see a lot of people broadcasting news, hot takes, jokes, points of view, and boosting same. What I don't see a lot of on Mastodon since turn of year is conversation. If this doesn't change I'll have to stop following popular people, because I can get this ambience from Tumblr. I'm not here to be broadcasted to, it seems.
Please don’t confuse what is legal with what is right. There is some overlap, of course, but not as much as one might think. Laws are generally written by the rich and powerful to protect their interests, often at the expense of the poor and weak. Many atrocities are lawful, and many acts of mercy are unlawful. I say this as an attorney.

Fascists used corporate media and social media, cults of trolls, Russian (and others) disinformation sites, perfidious messaging, maskirovka, and provokatsiya through agent provocateurs to drive America mad.

And the J6 Committee doesn’t want you to know about it, most likely so they can keep using psyop cannons.

What the Jan. 6 probe found out about social media, but didn’t report

The Jan. 6 committee's 845-page report offered few details of social media's role in the Capitol riot. Transcripts and an unreleased memo shows the committee knew more.

So what do you think, does this liberal democracy thing have legs here on Mastodon or are we safely operating outside of a rules based broadcasty ecosystem?
I clearly don't have any sense of how to package this cake. I put a plastic store-bought cake mount under and over it and it is going to strip the frosting right off of it when we take it off. At least the 82 is still visible under the top.
Baked my dad a birthday cake. Chocolate with banana frosting.
Tonight, no #monsterdon for me. I watched Vampire Diary (2007) and am now watching Becoming Jane (2007) which is an entire accident, that they were made in the same year. 15 freaking years ago. The latter of course has *production values* because it's a studio picture with stars. The former has *cinema verite* values because it's shot on a found footage conceit, which also helps one not to care that the blood seems fake and there is no way these actors are method. But both movies feature British accents, so, there's that.
739 days ago insurrectionists ransacked the US Capitol and *hours later* 68% of House republicans voted to finish the rioters’ job and make trump a dictator. Never forget it.
One for my cat, and two for my hauls this weekend.
