Earlier today Elon Musk said that my ban was temporary, 45 min later he denied my appeal to reinstate my account and confirmed that I am *permanently* banned. The email I just received says the decision cannot be reversed.
I have never once violated Twitters rules or terms of service. I’ve never had a single tweet flagged, my account was permanently banned with no warning and with no reason, after I reached out to Musk for comment.

@DarkoV @taylorlorenz exactly. Leave his platform.
@karelbrits @DarkoV @taylorlorenz easier said than done for journalists when modern journalism has relied on twitter for so long
@natty @karelbrits @DarkoV @taylorlorenz
Change can be painful, but necessary.
@wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits come on people she has a sizable mastodon account. what more do you want from her with all these replies, are any of you journalists who have had to maintain your income after deactivating or having your twitter account suspended? no?
@natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits With Musk running Twitter, journalists are going to have to look somewhere else if they want to be impartial. Nobody wanted this, but that's just how it is.

@natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits
#THREAD : Not only journalists, but other content creators have grown to rely on #TheBirdSite for gig notifications, networking, industry information/news, & more.

"Just leave...Now" is far easier said than done for many folks.

We need to stop bashing the folks who keep the other acct open, and start building a place here that CAN replace the other site. To do that, we need journalists, politicians, corporations/businesses, & a lot more.

@natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits
Let's focus our energy on getting accounts to migrate that offer gig jobs, news for the entertainment industry & other professions, bloggers/video creators/influencers, major corporations, etc.

We can't expect people to jump off the Titanic if they don't believe there are lifeboats waiting. If they have anything underfoot there at all, they won't jump off until we offer them VIABLE options.

@natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits
Today, I saw a video on #YouTube from #DavidPackman . His acct banner asks people to follow him on Tw!tter, but he's not on Mastodon. My comment to his video invited him to join us here, pointing to the huge amount of traffic on Mastodon.

Influencers need that, so mention it.

#BrianTylerCohen, another huge Dem influencer, has started an acct here. Follow him here in impressive numbers so he CAN shut down his bird acct: @briantylercohen .

@AnneTheWriter @natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits @briantylercohen on mastedom every one has to BE the change that they want, so flipping use it.
@AnneTheWriter @natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @karelbrits it wasn’t the titanic if you look close you can tell it was the Olympic JP Morgan sank the Olympic for insurance money 1912 it was in a crash. Why would you sink a brand new ship when you could sink the olympic instead it was damaged to begin with a guy on his deathbed said if he said anything he’d be killed he said the Olympic sank not the titanic if he spoke about it, he’d be killed
@AnneTheWriter @natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV I had over 6000 followers myself over there, build that up gradually over a period of 18-19 years. It's not easy to give up on something you put time and effort in, but sometimes you need to look ahead and move forward by letting go of the past.
@karelbrits @natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV
For a personal account, that's fine. For a business account, you have to know you have enough money & work waiting for you that you can pay the rent, if you lock the doors behind you and leave.
@AnneTheWriter @natty @wichopunkass @taylorlorenz @DarkoV what journalist is dependent on Twitter to make an income? That doesn't make sense. Even with any other business: Twitter can be a way to connect with clients, but so is Instagram, YouTube, facebook, your own company website, ... Would be stupid to put all your eggs in one basket and keep yourself hostage to a lunatic.
@AnneTheWriter @wichopunkass @DarkoV @karelbrits @taylorlorenz the current media landscape has been dependent on twitter for, as you say, 18-19 years (lmaoooo) and if you think journalists can just pull away from that then maybe — consider this — MAYBE you don’t really know what it’s like to be a journalist in our current media landscape
@natty @AnneTheWriter @wichopunkass @DarkoV @taylorlorenz I used Twitter as a source for information and networking within my own field of work as well. I don't know what it is like to be a journalist in the current media landscape, but I know that the journalists should be the ones that scare the rich and powerful, not the other way around.
@karelbrits @natty @taylorlorenz @AnneTheWriter @DarkoV
I’m honestly sorry for your predicament. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone and truly hope you find the same success in your new pursuits. If anything, this situation is a reminder of the need too abolish all billionaires by taxing the living fuck out of them.
@wichopunkass @natty @taylorlorenz @AnneTheWriter @DarkoV I used to love Twitter, but the atmosphere changed the last few years and the takeover was the last drop for me. I waited a little bit to see what it would look like under Musk, but I didn't want to be part of a company that sacks half of its workers to let the others work double and spend the night at the office, away from their families. That's slavery.
@natty @AnneTheWriter @taylorlorenz @DarkoV @wichopunkass yes, seriously. I was kind of an early adopter. My account here on Mastodon started in 2016. That's already 6 years now when I first dipped my toe in the water of the fediverse.
@taylorlorenz @wichopunkass @DarkoV @AnneTheWriter @karelbrits so what year was twitter created, then? you seem to know a lot about it and have been on it for a long time so
@natty @taylorlorenz @wichopunkass @DarkoV @AnneTheWriter sorry, I signed up in 2008. Miscalculated. I've been down with the flu the past five days and my brain is still a bit foggy every now and then.

@karelbrits @natty @taylorlorenz @wichopunkass @DarkoV
I don't even have a flu and couldn't tell you which year I did what, before the pandemic. I have an awful sense of time.

Sending prayers you feel better soon! 🙏🤒🤧

@natty @DarkoV @taylorlorenz I don't believe there's much to gather anymore if you rely on Twitter for journalism today. Journalists need to be able to work independent and report objectively. When you get dependent of the mood swings of the owner of a social media platform to be able to do your job, it's time to move out from that platform and look for other ways to spread your message or gather information. Times have changed. Drastically.
@karelbrits @natty @DarkoV @taylorlorenz Reporting based on what went viral on Twitter never was objective in the first place. We should actually be grateful to Musk for opening people's eyes (a little, maybe, probably very temporarily).
@bart @natty @DarkoV @taylorlorenz or if you look at it from the other side: journalism that is meant to trigger reactions and controversy that gets supported/rewarded by algorithms isn't healthy journalism. Same thing with clickbait on websites from news companies.
@bart @karelbrits @natty @DarkoV @taylorlorenz you think Taylor only reported "things that went viral on Twitter"? She's done a lot of other work.
@natty @karelbrits @DarkoV @taylorlorenz
Journalism thrived before Twitter, journalism will thrive after Twitter.
Not all of what Twitter brought to ‘journalism’ (treating single Tweets as news stories, driving the BREAKING culture of reporting before the facts are known) was positive.
Will this be a bump in the road? Yes. Can journalism move on positively from a dependency on Twitter? Absolutely.

@natty @karelbrits @DarkoV @taylorlorenz well, Europe has relied on Russian gas and look at it now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Twitter isn't dead yet. It just smells funny. Get off that boat.

#MastodonMigration.

@karelbrits @DarkoV @taylorlorenz I’m keeping my account on the bird site to vote in polls and to keep sharing any updates on how Elon has been ruining the platform and his legacy at the same time.
@brennansv @DarkoV @taylorlorenz I can understand that completely but for me I had to draw the line.
@DarkoV @taylorlorenz you were used as an example/warning. All this leads to self censorship. At this point, the only real question to ask any organization claiming to be independent: how do you justify staying? LEAVE NOW. #Twitter #TwitterExodus #TwitterMigration
@CarlLewistoo @DarkoV @taylorlorenz
I deleted it. Had about a day’s worth of withdrawals from up-to-the-minute snark, but Space Karen clogged my feed with a bunch of RWNJ’s I never followed.
@DarkoV @taylorlorenz 100% staying only gives him power. Any legitimate journalist who stays is only adding content and value for him and killing their own credibility.
@DarkoV @taylorlorenz totally agree. He needed to be ignored from that start. I don't even use Twitter now. I do sort of wish people would move engagement here tho. Only two of the people I follow actually toot.
@DarkoV @taylorlorenz
It's not Musk but the centralized setup and until "you" don't get that nothing will change.
For the global society there is no difference between Musk, Zuckerberg or even a "real stocks" company like Alphabet.
It's IT-totalitarianism, located in the US, there for "pleasant" for US Journalists and US Citizens, unless a lucky strike like Musk buying twitter happens.
"We" do get that "you" give a sh** about the rest of the world but don't expect us to believe a word of yours.
@DarkoV @taylorlorenz what are you on about. X is the no 1 free speech apps on the planet
@taylorlorenz But you’re a journalist and therefore a threat to him aaaaand he’s a soft whiny baby man.

@Lazarou @taylorlorenz that’s so hard to read. It is missing proper punctuation. It should be:

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

@taylorlorenz Does it count as doxxing to report that Musk’s head is up his own ass?
@angelozanola @taylorlorenz
Yes it does.
Because that is in fact his current location.
@angelozanola @taylorlorenz No that is just tracking. We need that to provide him with “advertising that best suits his interests”. 🤣
@taylorlorenz so sorry Taylor. You were a really important voice there, on tech but also on Long Covid. Nothing more fragile than a very rich dude with nothing but sycophants.
@taylorlorenz and apparently it's because of this lady's tweet complaining about an NYT article you wrote in 2020?
@taylorlorenz or rather, that's the justification he's listing.
@taylorlorenz also, weird how often this lady pops up these days
@parkermolloy @taylorlorenz I posted on Twitter about watching The Vow, and Nicki Clyne (who I've never interacted with in any way) responded with this whole weird screed. It was weird. She is out there searching social media for random users and shaming them for watching a documentary lol. Like, "You know this is behavior that just adds to the case the doc is making, right?" I am absolutely NOBODY, yelling at me does nothing for her. I didn't even mention her. One of the weirder interactions I've ever had on Twitter, which says A LOT.
