In the past 24 hours, Ukrainians have been been blocked from signing up for Twitter using their phone numbers and using 2FA and accounts tracking Russian oligarchs' jets have been suspended.

What happens on Twitter can seem like a sideshow, but Elon Musk's actions are a direct threat to democracy.

@MeidasTouch Wonder how much of it may also have to do with the intentional disruption of the OSINT community as well. They’ve been essential in discerning fact from fiction in the Russo-Ukrainian War as well as providing insight into troop and equipment movement.

It is a very powerful argument for the state taking back control of all assets. If corporations and wealthy individuals, lionised by "freedumbers" are not in any way part of the improvement of the democracies they flourish in, then they cannot be surprised when collective action wants to take them down. They are literally pumping oil from our soil and selling it back to us at record profits. That doesn’t include the $20+ billion American taxpayers give oil companies annually.

What ISP do you use?

What backbone provider do they use?

Who manufactured the networking gear routing your traffic?

What company owns the server that hosts your instance?

At least one of those is likely a private company.

Any one of them can monitor, censor or cease your communication of it weren't for regulating.

Musk's actions are Intentional. What bothers me is, just as we all watched and complained about what trump was doing, the same is happening now. @MeidasTouch @mmasnick Elon Musk is being dealt with in a very simple and effective manner: both users and advertisers are leaving Twitter or reducing their engagement.

There's no need for a direct govt intervention here beyond enforcing any laws or agreements he breaks. Twitter is entirely expendable--after all, we are on an entirely different site talking about the same things as before.

As a supporter of Ukraine, I was following Kyiv Independent and warned them months ago to not trust Musk. His private meeting with Putin and the his immediate decision to buy overpriced Twitter at $44 billion was too suspect to ignore.
