I paid a visit to my favourite Beech tree again today. It was misty and cold, but its roots stretched out towards me like a warm, welcoming hand, covered in a carpet of moss

Since you guys like this tree as much as I do, here it is in Summer, the gnarly trunk leading us up to a canopy of leaves that are shrouded in mist.

@DrLygo such a glorious tree, thank you
@weaniejeanie53 Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š Itโ€™s my go-to thinking place. Itโ€™s a wise old tree.
@DrLygo luv it.โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ™
@DrLygo That's a gorgeous photo of a gorgeous tree!
@DrLygo oh wow I DO love this tree!!!
@DrLygo Beautiful photo. Do you have one of it in fall, with the gold leaves? You can see that beaches inspired Tolkien's mallorn trees.
@BertL I donโ€™t actually, and Iโ€™ve no idea why! I really must rectify it.
@DrLygo Beautiful and calming.
@OldmanbytheC I love to sit here for exactly that reason ๐Ÿ˜Š
@DrLygo Beautiful place and nice words. It is good to have such a place for quiet moments and when you need to retreat.
@maha Thanks Martin. It is indeed :)
@DrLygo What an absolutely glorious tree!
@DrLygo beautiful beautiful and beautiful
@DrLygo thank you for sharing pic of this majestic beauty.
@DrLygo My favorite tree is a redwood.
@Gaythia Oh, I can see why thatโ€™s your favourite! How wonderful. How big is that trunk?! Have you got any pics with someone next to it for scale? Thanks for sharing!
@DrLygo Sadly, Henry Cowell State park is a small and heavily visited protected zone (Near Santa Cruz, CA). So straying off the path is discouraged. Historically, women's groups played key roles in protecting these areas from logging. https://scholarworks.unr.edu/bitstream/handle/11714/8220/Knoll_unr_0139M_13782.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y
@Gaythia I love that. Anyone protecting trees is a friend of mine ๐Ÿฅฐ
@DrLygo an oak tree at the end of the road.
@rideabike thatโ€™s lovely! And what a great photo ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป Oaks are wonderful trees, arenโ€™t they?!
@DrLygo yes Oaks are my favorite trees. They make it through our brutal summers without rain.
@DrLygo ๐Ÿ˜ƒ iโ€™ve never known anyone else to also have a favorite beech tree! *swoons* theyโ€™re magnificent, arenโ€™t they
@abejaclaustro They really are. And the soft crunch of the husks on the ground when you walk beneath them, adds to it all. Wonderful all round

@DrLygo

Oh I love your tree friend!

@kaylee Ah, it really is my friend. Thank you ๐Ÿฅฐ
@DrLygo It looks like it has 1000 stories to tell.
@BeachBum I think of that often - what it must have seen and lived throughโ€ฆ Itโ€™s certainly been here for 100s of years.
@DrLygo such a cool shot. Love the loss of contrast as branches become more distant
@AbandonedAmerica Thank you :) It was beautifully misty up on the hillfort that day.
@DrLygo Hello Nicky. A very strong and nice picture to begin the week. I'll take a bit of the strenght of your tree. ๐Ÿ˜€
Thanks fot sharing and "Bravo !" as we say in french.
@hans_trapp Thank you Hans. Take all the strength you need; this tree has plenty.
@DrLygo Awesome enough cropped, but when opened, wow! What a spectacular image!
@SuperTwaddle Thank you so much! ๐Ÿ˜Š
@DrLygo Love it. Trees are amazing.
@DeborahForPlus They really are, arenโ€™t they? Beautiful, strong, hugely important for biodiversity, they take up CO2 and give us oxygen. Itโ€™s hard to think of a more important organism!
@DrLygo Lovely look of that tree in winter. Here is an old one I took with an embedded stone in the trunk
@psmythe This is fabulous! Where is it?
@DrLygo Methven Wood, Nicki - several old and interesting trees there with stones in their trunks.
