My current plan is to ditch linkedin in the next year or so and have my professional portfolio and official contact method be a self hosted website + email server, it really stopped being useful after my third position when companies started seeking me out specifically

@panegyr I'm almost to that point. I'd like to give a conference talk and publish something worthwhile before I feel fully comfortable getting rid of it.

@panegyr @Imlordofthering I've seen a lot of static pages built on Hugo that I definitely want to create. Would love to make that my "business card" of sorts.

I'm still not quite ready to give up on my LinkedIn yet, but I like your energy on that though. Hopefully one day I can get to that point ​

@Imlordofthering @Em0nM4stodon I'm in the same boat. Professionally, it's helped me network and land me my current position, as well as keep me in the market.

That being said, the state of LinkedIn is such a hodge podge of wanna-be influencers and garbage posts (thinking r/LinkedInLunatics) that I find it hard to take seriously sometimes.

@Em0nM4stodon Already left Facebook when the 2008 Obama campaign exposed a ton of coworkers REAL thoughts and feelings. Instagram is the next I would like to leave but the importance of it showing what I can do(photography) has helped me get jobs.

@Em0nM4stodon IG is the only other one I have left but I need it to #monitor my company's social media accounts. I closed all my personal SM accounts many years ago because I #knowwhatisoutthere - best thing I ever did. Happy to be in the #fediverse tho! This place is lit and really takes me back to the vibe of the early internet chat #forums, #ICQ, and #BBS boards.
