Is there any other #Disabled people here on Mastodon? I would love to talk to some technologically-minded people who care about privacy/security and understand the struggles that come with being disabled. 🙂
Following up: trying to explain to people who take care of you,(of which I have the two most amazing people), why I am so paranoid about privacy and companies having access to my data is like pulling teeth…
@joshroxs123_ Bipolar and formerly worked in ad tech - learned so much about what data is harvested by whom, and became a bit of a privacy advocate. It’s scary and amazing what they know.
@linseigh how are you? What's your disability if you don't mind me asking?
@joshroxs123_ long term complications of necrotizing enterocolitis (currently unnamed condition); functional neurological disorder; and a few that don’t complicate my life quite as much as those two. I’m okay, but I’m trying not to let new symptoms get me down😅 You?
@joshroxs123_ also, fun fact: some fellow survivors of necrotizing enterocolitis also happen to have cerebral palsy — including the son of #NECUK’s director! There is so much research that needs to be done, but now we all have this hodgepodge of neurological/gastrointestinal conditions.
@linseigh I can sympathize with gastrointestinal stuff. I have GERD where somettimes my stomach acid well come out my throat and and I will get really sick.
@joshroxs123_ yep, I’ve been there😭 It’s horrible!
@joshroxs123_ Pick me! Pick me! Not sure about the other stuff you posted, but we can work that out together... fellow disabled peep.
@joshroxs123_ Raises hand. I have Parkinson’s, Crohn’s, depression, and anxiety.
@joshroxs123_ @tweetingtechno I know there is a specific instance available, I’m unsure of the name

@joshroxs123_ thank you so much for starting a conversation on this! I wonder if it might even be useful to create a hashtag for the topic that people can use…

@joshroxs123_ there's a ton of us on disabled.social, and you can follow the disability group at @disability as well!

(I am not very technologically-minded but there's got to be plenty of #disabled people on here who are)

@natrix @joshroxs123_ @disability Hello I’m such a person, I’m a moderator in disabled.social and I’m also in tech.lgbt
@joshroxs123_ I’m disabled! Physically and mentally. What do you want to know?
@joshroxs123_
there's many of us around @multipledisabilities is a group that I've not seen in response to this. I'm a disabled person who's in the process of converting most of my devices to at least primarily run on Linux operating systems & indeed struggle pretty sizably with trying to balance safety, security and privacy. Ultimately knowing it's really impossible to do completely in tech but likewise pushing for a combination of least I can, with enough confusion I at times deliberately create (mainly on meta data).
@joshroxs123_ we're floating around all over the place! Welcome in! I can't say I know much beyond the basics of privacy and tech, but I love disability talks and tech talks. I am always looking for more things to learn about and people to connect with!
@joshroxs123_ according to the #ada I'm #disabled because I have #diabetes and #bipolar also #adhd. Not sure if you include those things in your definition or not.
