I think people see research energy and money as a resource to compete for. And I get it, but it's shitty. That's why I like the NIH's current approach, which is to treat "rare diseases" as a common field of focus; even if one only affects hundreds of people, there are hundreds of these populations of survivors facing common elements to their challenges.

Our proposal aims to address 77 different genes, in hopes at least a few will give actionable information!

I'm in the research community, so kind of medical-adjacent, and we're working right now on a proposal for a rare disease-focused RFA. This is just to say that there *is* energy (and money!) out there to do research into how to improve things for you, but it's hard.

One last thing: #SSB was composed for a London men’s club in the 1770s before Key wrote new lyrics in 1814. Johnson wrote #LEV to commemorate #Lincoln’s birthday, highlighting the struggles of post-#Reconstruction. It was debuted by 500 schoolchildren in 1900 & quickly spread across the US, long before the SSB was taken on (thanks to campaigning by the Daughters of the #Confederacy) as the US official #anthem.

#LiftEveryVoiceAndSing is 123 yrs old. The prayer of freedom was written BEFORE SSB was est. as our national anthem (by executive order in 1916 & officially by public law in 1931).

When you get mad about this hymn, you expose your ignorance. You got mad 123 yrs too late.

Y’all are mad at these lyrics? They are the soul of what’s virtuous about the US. Take several seats. And pick up a book; maybe enroll in AP African American History.
