Also a reminder that crossposting back to bird site makes it easier for people to stay there and hides how folks are leaving.

Whether you continue to do that is up to you, of course, and will be dependent on how much your circles of friends have already jumped ship.

But if lots already have, consider not doing that to encourage friends to leave the main character battle arena site and join better alternatives.

@Pwnallthethings I'll be politely unfollowing accounts that do that. Its a personal choice, so is following.
@Pwnallthethings The part where the popular vote matters now is really hilarious.
@Pwnallthethings just signed out of the bird poop site for good. As you said, vote with your feet.
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings just deactivated my account, don't need that shit in my life. Figured the site would implode before he brought Trump back.
@Pwnallthethings @jwhipp1 I impersonated Musk multiple times to get permanently banned. Like Vikings burning the escape ships
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings ...that's the thing, though. I don't think most users will bail. Too much momentum. Like watching a train wreck.
@ChrisPirillo @jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings and everyone else should. Elon Musk deserves nothing at this point.
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings I did the same and hope that others will do so as well.
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings same! Deleted. I won’t “partake” as the saying does not go…
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings I just made my last tweet as well! Hello Mastodon!
@jwhipp1 @Pwnallthethings I did🙂, and yes I feel better. I tell people to vote with their feet and dollars 👍🏻
@Pwnallthethings Yes. I turned off my cross poster earlier today. I’m done.
@Pwnallthethings I went nuclear and caught a seven day probation so it’s been a bit of forced a detox for me that I’m enjoying actually. Twitter seems to bring out my worse instincts
@Pwnallthethings Just signed out for the last time. Tonight was the straw that broke this camel's back.
@Pwnallthethings Know that mastodon lets you mute "RT" if you don't like seeing stuff from over there.
@Pwnallthethings Just left the bird site. One day at a time I'm done with it.
@Pwnallthethings yeah I was thinking the same thing. I don't even think I'm helping the people who've grown dependent on it by letting it fester like that. They'll lose their reach anyway.
@Pwnallthethings doing a bit of tidying up and then going to leave #TwitterMigration
@Pwnallthethings I don't think the transition will be so bad, I'm already getting used to it.
@Pwnallthethings I block those posts by setting up a filter for RT @
@Pwnallthethings You raise some good points. However, given the massive difference in the users of Twitter versus Mastodon at the moment, deactivation from the latter is premature. No neutral tweets there! But use it to accelerate those switching to this site. There's a good case for cross posting. Wanna hear it? First of all, take celebs like @neilhimself. Should he abandon 3 million followers before he's brought them safely over here? Not in my opinion. Let's smuggle them here via lifeboats.
@Pwnallthethings After they gave Trump his account back, I deleted mine.
@Pwnallthethings please forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by “cross posting”?
@Kathryn @Pwnallthethings It’s when people post something on Twitter and post the same thing here.
@Pwnallthethings this is ideologically right, but practically bad advice :)
JLarky on Twitter

“That's not how you do it :) would you post that "goodbye everyone" for years to come? When you leave algo just puts another person in your place, no one even notices a difference. You need to cross post with links to Mastodon, especially for 240+ posts https://t.co/uyLc9MWlRK”

Twitter
@Pwnallthethings I mostly agree, but there are networks there that, because of deliberate choices on what mastodon will be like, don't work as well here.

@Pwnallthethings I've decided to post links to toots over there, but set to "only mentioned ca reply" for a few weeks. That way twitter followers can see that I'm here, but not reply to that tweet, only click a link to the toot over here.

Best of both world for the change over?

@Pwnallthethings I logged out of my work account everywhere, tried to deactivate but the process failed 😂

Have a private handle locked down cause I want to watch the bonfire 🔥

@Pwnallthethings I was traveling for work yesterday, and I found myself on a country road. This huge flock of birds 🐦 flew through the sky in front of my car. There had to be thousands of them. I took it as a good sign. It made me think of the Beatles song black bird.❤
@Pwnallthethings I have taken to crossposting from the bird site to here. I have a social media manager app that does not support mastodon, so keeping my twitter account for just such a purpose works AOK!
@Pwnallthethings I won't even look at it unless it's embedded in an article about the bird site after learning that their most prolific consumers would earn them $40/day in advertising revenue. I don't want to make laundering space x $$ into twitter via well timed massive ad buys any easier for the genius.
@Pwnallthethings yeah I've been considering turning it off recently. prolly will if things continue the way they are for much longer
@Pwnallthethings Deactivated last night. I’ve had my bird account since 2009. It was bittersweet but I truly believe the only way to send the message that none of the behavior is ok, is to sign off completely. Those saying they are staying to fight for the cause are just feeding the monsters.
@Pwnallthethings
the cross poster does not support Twitter circles.
Just saying.
"...makes it easier for people to stay there.."
Yes, it's a drawback. All my tweets have my Mastodon address in them, that will at least make them aware of the existing alternative.
@Pwnallthethings no offense intended but i see that as refusing to send a text message to get your friends to switch from Android to iPhone. I don't think anyone should be "forced" or 'made' to keep cross posting but if that's your only reason to stop I think that's kind of hurting more than helping.
@Pwnallthethings I don't really agree with the whole "us versus them" thing. People should be free to make their own decisions.
