Happy to be here.
And once I am dead,
I will be happy to be there too.

“More than half a century of urban planning prioritizing sprawl has gotten us to where we are now: choked by endless freeways, benumbed by carbon-copy strip malls, secluded in catchpenny houses with no sense of human scale.”

#KateWagner critiques the USian commitment to “endless consumption” through the lens of the prolific McMansion.

The McMansion as Harbinger of the American Apocalypse

The McMansion has survived financial crises and ecological catastrophes to become a monument to this country’s will to self-annihilation.

Just lost my Twitter verification, but that's not a real problem. The real problem is the oligarchs who have too much power over the internet.

And our economy.

And our democracy.

Remember, we have more in common with each other than we do with them — blue check or not.

Here’s something that Twitter expats are not really understanding, not using hashtags on Mastodon is the reason your engagement is underwhelming. Mastodon doesn’t have a search function nor an algorithm to surface inflammatory nonsense all the time. Unless you tag your post it’s only going to reach your followers at the time of posting. If someone is not in front of the app during that time, you might as well shout into the neither. #TwitterMigration #MastodonMigration #MastodonTips

I'm tired of living like it's the 1600s:

Can I afford eggs at the market?
Are my family going to die of the plague?
Puritans are coming for my sinful lifestyle.

I want modern problems.
Modern Problems.

I gave up 15 years on Twitter and 22,000 followers. I used my anniversary to invite others to follow me to Mastodon, and I pointed out that every tweet is a donation to Musk. We know what he is and what he's doing. He gave Michael Flynn his account back on the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection.

I started my #Twitter exodus as a boycott against Musk. Now, I'm thrilled to be here. I miss a few things, but Mastodon is just built better. I feel like it makes me (and you) better, too.

“[If you’re running a site like Twitter,] you have to have a ‘small d’ democratic personality, which is to say you really have to be comfortable with a thousand voices flourishing, a lot of them being critical of you, and that’s not something that you take personally.” –@owasow

Elon Musk's Quest to Make Twitter Worse

Elon Musk's presence has loomed over Twitter since he announced plans to purchase the platform. And for these few weeks that he's been in charge, many concerns have proven to be justified. Musk laid off 3,700 employees, and then 4,400 contractors. He is firing those who are critical of him. The veri

I have a book coming out about the fading power of the magazine. From the NYT, a profile of the former editor of InStyle:
'Besides, she knew “the power of magazines is not what it used to be.” Many years ago, social media leveled the playing field in fashion; in today’s front row, top editors are typically sandwiched between Instagram personalities and famous friends of the brand. In this case, Ms. Brown was all three at once.'

How Not to Be a Character in a ‘Bad Fashion Movie’

Laura Brown lost her job as a top magazine editor in 2022. That’s OK.

I figured I should dive in a do a post. I hope to provide more thoughtful comments later on but for now I’m just going to join in on observing #Caturday Grey cat Nemo fought white cat Molly to gain the prime lap space. Molly is revenging by doing a #doctorwho #weepingangel impression & appearing closer in his face-space every time he blinks 😆😹

This #Thanksgiving, thankful for all the folks who keep #Ukraine running against impossible odds.

To the train workers; the utility engineers; the lorry drivers keeping stores open. To logistics folks and the 1000s behind the scenes that make it possible to repair.

For the medical workers. The ambulance drivers. Surgeons. Nurses. The people digging through rubble to save those below.

For those who make homes safe; those who find the lost, and who help their families find peace.

Thank you.

Some Mastodon tips I've learned:

- You need a fit, young hunting party
- They are not easy to bring down, so make sure your spears have extremely sharp tips
- Ensure you have a supply line and pack animals available to transport the meat and pelt back to the cave
