Started on the Christmas tech support already, Dad's Win11 Dell XPS13 laptop won't speed test above 500mbps, usually closer to 300mbps (on 1000/100 FTTP) either via WiFi 6 or USB-C 1gbps Eth adapter with 2m cat6a cable direct to router. My similar (year older iirc) XPS13 running Linux with same USB-C adapter gets +900mbps on same cable. Phones also seeing ~900 on WiFi.

Starting to apply driver updates, but really can't explain this one.

@rmondello csv export from Password does not reveal a broken entry either.

Phew. Half a day of handcrafting now on hold and it was meant as a test bed for my whole family to finally use stronger passwords - abrupt end to #xmastechsupport

My Mum has handed me a Christmas tech problem I’m not sure how to solve, so I am throwing myself on the mercies of the Fediverse to see if anyone here has any ideas.

She has a working Samsung J7 with a dead screen (the digitiser works), that she wants files from. It’s not backed up anywhere (via either Google or Samsung), ADB isn’t enabled, HDMI out doesn’t seem to work (have already tried on two external monitors).

What can we use to grab the files from the phone without installing or approving anything from the device itself, or get access to the screen so we can see what we’re doing?

Is there a way I can clone the thing to emulate it locally?
