Second electromagnet rebuilt and everything is working as expected!
As a restoration, it’s pretty much complete now. Normally the finished top would be attached to the upper frame, but as I want to display it, I decided to make it lift off, so I don’t have to unscrew the thumb screws for the upper frame to see the insides.
Just need to finish off my extras on it.
I found an antique servants bell on eBay which should arrive during the week. It’s got a wood surround, which I’ll strip back and colour match to the block bell. Then I’ll wire it up and then it should be done!
My next problem is that I’ve not actually got anywhere to put it! I’ll have to have a move around!

IT’S ALIVE!!
Only running on one electromagnet at the moment. Need to recoil the other one, but I need some more wire.
I’ve obviously taken some poetic licence on the bell wiring, as it wouldn’t normally ding unless it receives from another signal box. I’m hoping to rig it up to a simple door bell to imitate receiving.
As it’s for me and not for resale, I’m okay with that. It’s also possible to revert the wiring if I ever did want to sell it.
Sometime you just have to improvise!
Recoiling the electromagnet in an attempt to get some life into it.
These are the tool cabinets I have been making for the Community Workshop. Each one is about 1000 x 2000 x 200mm and used 4 sheets of 18mm plywood.
I built them as sealed boxes and then cut the door out, fitting the hinges as I went.
The right hand one has a narrower door as it needed to clear the work top and the electric/water intake. The deep recess behind the hinges will be used for sash cramp storage.
I still need to make the rest of the tool racks inside, and tidy them up.
They are mounted on the shipping container doors so that the doors can still open when needed and the tools access from outside.
I didn't help with this in the end, but added some stalks to some carved mushroom heads I'd made a while ago.

It is one of those quick and simple constructions that took four weeks to do as we're only there for 2 hours a week.
One week to glue up one cabinet, another week to cut it open, sand it, and hang it up.
Then repeat. 😄
