EFFecting Change is where we should be in our great #infosec neural net right about now, ya?
Doctorow on a bike with wheatpasting posters? Yes, that's where it starts in the retrocausality time loom.
Discussion also includes a reference to CARDIAC, or CARDboard Illustrative Aid to Computation, a fantastically neat circa-1968 resource for teaching / learning or (thanks to the blog offering the schemas downloadable) #CNC machining as a reference and #computation resource.
I really like the idea of ripping out everything trying to turn #AI into a metered "utility" like that other college dropout CEO, Sam Altman wants.
Because he lacks creativity,
has an alleged bloodthirsty thirst for control
thirst to control work
he did not create and
code could never code himself,
Cory Doctorow's take is not optimistic, but, as he says "hopeful" because hope involves the idea that you/me/we/us can do things to make the change. Where optimism is the idea that things will get better no matter what.
I don't think things are going to get better no matter what, but I do agree that open is the way to be.
And so there's only one way to fix this, and it's to rip out all the unauditable, opaque
remote controlled, untrustworthy proprietary software and replace it with transparent, public, international, open public goods that everyone can see and everyone can validate and that you can run locally on servers in your own country. And I think we're closer to that than we've ever been.

Simple CNC parts can still create real preparation work.
CNC Passport Make uses parametric DXF templates for repeatable 2D geometry: slots, cutouts, ribbed fronts, small production blanks.
Anyone here using RepRapFirmware on their cnc mill (or 3D printer)? I have some questions related to planning out my controls cabinet.
Specifically I want to know if there is a way I can tie a button or switch in for motion enable/disable and use a contactor to cut power to the drives/spindle
I’m also assuming I can have standard start/hold push buttons. I am used to having my fingers on buttons to pause and resume without taking my eyes off the work…
