Butoh to the People - Butoh Community Workshop mit Malte Brammer

The Christmas market at the Community Workshop today was good fun. And we had a reasonable number of sales, despite the rain.

Looking forward to the next one in a fortnight.

#CommunityWorkshop

Once the funding had been agreed the ground works was started and a level base was established for two shipping containers.

We had the containers delivered to the site and then @suearcher and I got the steel work done ready for the living green roof to go on.
The containers had to be square and level with each other.

The photos show how the containers were opened up to make a larger space.
We cut away the facing sides and welded them back on to join the containers together.

Once we got the steelwork to roof height, the rest of the #WorkingInWood group started on the timber framing so that the living green roof could be installed.

Later the shipping containers were insulated and clad in timber, and rainwater collection added. Then the group added a clear roof over the outdoor area in front of the workshop doors.

For those of you who might be curious about the community workshop we built here are two videos about the Cleavley Community Forest Garden where the workshop is based.

[I have doubled up the video links so the first one is a YouTube link, the second is an Invidious link.]

This video is a bit of history about how the Forest Garden started with Incredible Education:

This video is from 2024, and shows how the site has developed in the meantime.
The community workshop can be seen in the background at 7:00, and also at 16:39 where there is a yoga class outside under our workshop canopy.

In order to help get the funding to build the workshop Sue and I built a model to show the funders.
Two shipping containers opened out and welded to make a 6x9m workshop with a 9x10m outdoor covered work space.

These are the tool cabinets I have been making for the Community Workshop. Each one is about 1000 x 2000 x 200mm and used 4 sheets of 18mm plywood.
I built them as sealed boxes and then cut the door out, fitting the hinges as I went.

The right hand one has a narrower door as it needed to clear the work top and the electric/water intake. The deep recess behind the hinges will be used for sash cramp storage.
I still need to make the rest of the tool racks inside, and tidy them up.

They are mounted on the shipping container doors so that the doors can still open when needed and the tools access from outside.

A community workshop struggles with an identity crisis. Without proper signage, attendees are left wandering and wondering. #communityworkshop #signage #losthttps://www.tiktok.com/@619cvld/video/7561897542552685837?utm_campaign=tt4d_open_api&utm_source=awa6z07qoicg5jkx
