I love these little Stanley 16in Toolboxes. Previously I had bigger toolboxes that I just threw everything into, but I do prefer this system. They are usually on offer for around £9, so good value.

I do have a toolbox for ‘general’ tools, as well as two ‘tool walls’ as well.

Good run this morning. Found the last two miles tough. Still only running once a week.

Slight booboo with this…

Turns out I somewhat misjudged the temperature that the chimney part of the lantern reaches! The paint I used is suitable for temperatures up to 120°C and some lanterns can reach double that.

The outcome was that the paint started to bubble up in places. I want my restorations to be useable as intended and not just decorative, so I now have to strip all of that paint off!

The good news is that I’ve discovered that they do a Very High Temperature version of the paint, which is up to 800°C.

Oh well, you live and learn!

Okay run this morning. The drizzle was nice.

The last three weeks I’ve not done any midweek runs. Struggling for motivation, hopefully it’s just a blip.

Working on another railway lantern. This one is in a pretty poor condition, which was reflected in the price. It also had an unidentified issue with the door, which meant it had a gap of about ½ an inch where the locking pin is supposed to slide in.

On investigation, someone at some point in the last ~50 years had curled the pin hinges back on themselves. With some gentle persuasion I managed to bend them back and what-do-you-know, the door works! There was no damage to them, so the reason shall remain a mystery!

I was then able to clear the rust and the paint remnants. I used a scotch mop on my polisher, which made light work of it.

Then it was ready for priming and painting.

Edit: As usual, I forgot to take ‘before’ photos.

Good run this morning. Really pleased with the consistency.

@Andy And now I thought of you in return! At the Dutch railway museum:

Hi @Stratski I saw this and thought of you!

Tough out and back run today.

The return leg was hard work, with a few short walks and a few short stops. It was mainly uphill though.

Not run this route for a while and I’d forgotten the elevation on it.
