I've debated, in the bathroom mirror with myself, if "development tools" is a category I should explore. I did #HyperCard, so it seems only fair to do #VisualBasic. The time investment for these investigations is signifcant, so I can't do them frequently, but I really shouldn't overlook the tools that built the tools we used.

RAD Basic s'est rapproché un peu plus du retour de Visual Basic 6 sur PC avec la sortie de la version 0.5.0 Alpha 3. Cette version est axée sur l'expérience de l'utilisateur de l'IDE (en particulier le concepteur de formulaires). Il n'y a pratiquement aucune nouvelle fonctionnalité dans le compilateur. Su proyecto 𝑹𝒖𝒃𝒚, creado antes de llegar a Microsoft, permitía diseñar ventanas y controles de manera visual. Microsoft tomó esa idea, la combinó con BASIC y de ahí nació 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰, lanzado en 1991.
El resultado fue una revolución: arrastrar controles, crear formularios, responder a eventos y construir aplicaciones Windows sin partir desde cero.

Antes de 𝗩𝗕, crear aplicaciones para Windows era tarea compleja, reservada para programadores con dominio profundo de APIs, compiladores y estructuras de bajo nivel.
𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 entendió que el desarrollo de software necesitaba algo distinto: una forma visual, directa y más humana de construir interfaces.

𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂 no murió realmente: se transformó.
Fue el puente entre el 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖 clásico de la microcomputadora y la programación visual que dominaría buena parte del desarrollo Windows en los años 90.

Así se anunciaba 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂 en 1986: no como una ruptura total con 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖, sino como su evolución natural.
Durante años, 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖 fue la puerta de entrada a la programación para millones de usuarios. Era sencillo, directo y venía incluido en muchas microcomputadoras.
