Liberals from #Germany block groundbreaking #EU law. The adoption of the CSDD was just a formality. And it’s time to recognise basic human rights. So this came as a surprise. And not at all? Yet this lobbying has no clear force since many companies called for this change too. It sounds like a strange bid to gain non-existing voters.

Das Lieferkettengesetz auf EU-Ebene wird vorerst doch nicht in Kraft treten. Schuld daran ist die FDP, der sonst angeblich Menschenrechte ganz wichtig sind – so sehr sogar, dass jeder bereit sein sollte, „unsere“ Werte in der Welt mit der Waffe zu verteidigen. Nun blockieren die Liberalen die Einführung eines Lieferkettengesetzes, mit dem zumindest die grundsätzlichen Menschenrechte gewahrt sowie ein Mindestmaß an arbeitsrechtlichen Standards eingehalten werden müssen. Angeblich produziere dieses neue Gesetz viel zu viel Bürokratie, weshalb die deutsche Industrie davor geschützt werden müsse. Bemerkenswerterweise sprechen sich aber in der Industrie Konzerne wie KiK und Ikea für ein solches Lieferkettengesetz aus.
