Outside is really noisy right now - nature is screaming. Silent but brightly coloured flags waving from every bush.
I remember the October my daughter was born; bringing her home past hedges adorned in berries. This year the haws, blackberries, sloes & hips are all out now… in August. What will be food in October?

Be very wary when buying, look up reviews on another site at the very least to ensure a book is legitimate or get a recommendation from an experienced forager. Particularly with #mushrooms it really is worth learning from someone in person to get the smell and texture and the full context of the site. Finished batch of hawthorn berry ketchup! The berries are called haws, so really this is haw ketchup 🤭

Recipe and method 🧵

After picking out all the leaves (very hard to pick berries without getting the whole sprig) I washed them in cold water and weighed them. We had 300g of berries. Boiled them in apple cider vinegar and simmered them for an hour, topping up with vinegar when it dried out.
