@regendans both are true. Wind (and solar) are making massive strides to make our electricity more green and there will be no going back to fossil fuel electricity - green is cheaper now.
However most of our heating is gas. There is a lot of work/legislation going on now to get more heat pumps and better insulation installed, but it's still going to take years. In the meantime, gas will still be required, better to get some here than import it from unreliable or unsavoury partners.
