#homelab gurus! I am considering replacing our old #Synology DS1525 with a #TrueNAS, mostly because I want to run #Immich, #Paperlessngx, and #jellyfin on it without having to deal with Syno's out-of-date #Docker implementation.

If you're running TrueNAS, two questions:

1) how hard was it to get automated backups of #Windows and #Linux systems set up? I do appreciate Syno's built-in backup tools.

2) how bad an idea would it be to run these compute loads on the NAS vs a separate compute node? We are *not* heavy users - just the two of us and we're pretty casual about home use, so it feels like loads would be pretty minimal...

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Built a 12 bay box for TrueNAS. Having not built a machine in decades, I was a little worried, but first shot, here we are! Time to configure and see about adding my first drive!

Muchas gracias!

You saved my day. I wrecked my #Immich instance on #truenas yesterday evening.

I'm so angry on truenas not being able to give some alerts on updates or having good error notices. 🤬🤯

I'm now at the point to ditch this abstraction layer and go for #proxmox instead and maybe have truenas or vanilla Debian as file server guest.

¡¡OJO CUIDAO CON LA ACTUALIZACIÓN DE #Immich en #TrueNAS!!
Las versiones antiguas de PostgreSQL no están soportadas al actualizar Immich, por lo que si se te ocurre actualizar de una v15 a la v18 actual (como yo lo tenía), el sistema se rompe.
Hay que hacer rollback o asegurarte que estás en la v1.13.6 (no de Immich, sino de la aplicación de TrueNAS) y editar el fichero /mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/immich/versions/1.13.6/ix_values.yaml como indican en https://github.com/truenas/apps/issues/4628#issuecomment-4098018533 (1/2)

Die Frage ist ja was du damit machen möchtest.

Vor einem Jahr hätte ich #truenas empfohlen. Nach dem letzten stunt die Pipeline nicht mehr öffentlich zu haben bin ich skeptisch.

Daher: wenn du mehr als nur file server Dinge machen willst würde ich eher zu proxmox als host und truenas als guest tendieren.

Nicht-Nerd kompatibel ist beides nicht. 🤪

So das neue NAS ist einsatzbereit. Das (proprietäre) Betriebssystem würde ich gerne ersetzen. Jetzt ist die Frage mit was. #ZimaOS, #TrueNAS, #Proxmox
Soll auch nicht-Nerd-Kompatibel sein.

Any #SSD experts out there? My #TrueNAS boot pool consists of two mirrored SATA SSDs. One has suddenly stopped running #SMART tests. Well it runs but it never progresses. It showed a status of 120% remaining for four days (running a short test).

I’ve power-cycled the #NAS and re-run the short test and now it shows 90% for the past 12 hours. I’m guessing the drive is telling me it’s about done. I have an identical spare that I can replace it with. These Kingston SSDs aren’t so great! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Habe eine gebrauchte LSI 9361, mit einem Gehäuse mit Backplane (neu), und irgendwelche SFF-8643-Kabel.
Angeschlossene Festplatten drehen manchmal hoch, bewegen den Motor kurz, und gehen sofort wieder aus. Kann nicht SATA 3.3 Power Disable sein, weil eine getestete Festplatte von 2013 ist.
Der Controller sieht und identifiziert eine und geht dann in einen Fehler-Modus und tut nichts mehr.
