Facebook is the worst. I've posted in the past about the proliferation of mostly Vietnamese in origin 'Native American' accounts there that usually are fronts for t-shirt companies. In the past they heavily leaned on stereotypes & historical figures. Huge followings far beyond real Native accounts.

With #AI it got real goofy. I remember one I saw that showed people camping along the way of the #TrailOfTears in tipis. I was like WTF. 1000s & 1000s of shares/likes.

Please boost!

My family and I are survivors of the world's two largest genocides, and enslavement. The odds were against us big time, but #WeAreStillHere.

Accept my elder wisdom please. Do not minimize #Felon47, he's one of the most dangerous people in history. This is not a joke or a test, it's the real thing.

Trump, his administration and followers must be stopped!

Covering most of what became #Oklahoma, the #IndianTerritory was created by Congress on #ThisDayInHistory in 1825. This set the stage for the #TrailOfTears: a #genocidal removal of over a dozen #Indigenous nations from America's southeast. The US still won't reckon with its past.

Today in Labor History December 29, 1835: The U.S signed the Treaty of New Echota with a minority Cherokee faction. The treaty gave all the Cherokee lands east of the Mississippi River to the U.S. However, the treaty was never approved by the Cherokee National Council nor signed by Principal Chief John Ross. Nevertheless, it was ratified in March 1836 and became the legal basis for the forcible removal known as the Trail of Tears, which killed 4000-6000 indigenous men, women and children.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1837, during the #TrailOfTears, 311 #Muscogee (#Creek) Indians died when the steamboat #Monmouth collided with another boat on the #MississippiRiver. This contributed to the ~16000 people killed in the #genocide under Jackson's "Indian Removal" policies.

Today in Labor History August 15, 1935: Will Rogers and Wiley Post were killed after their aircraft developed engine problems during takeoff in Barrow, Alaska. Will Rogers was a Native American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorous social commentator. He was a Cherokee, born in the Indian Territory (now part of Oklahoma). During his life, he made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 "talkies"), and wrote over 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. By the mid-1930s, he was one of the highest paid of Hollywood film stars. In 1928 he ran for president on the Anti-Bunk ticket. When asked what farmers need, he said "He needs a punch in the jaw if he believes that either of the parties cares a damn about him after the election." His father had owned two slaves and fought on the side of the Confederacy and became a Cherokee leader and attorney. His mother’s family had been expelled from Georgia and survived the Trail of Tears march to Oklahoma.
