I love this statue of the Glaswegian broadcaster, writer, climber and all round outdoor enthusiast Tom Weir at Balmaha on the banks of Loch Lomond. Unveiled in 2014 to mark the centenary of his birth, it was created by the sculptor Sean Hedges-Quinn.

I grew up in Lawers on the North shore of Loch Tay. My folks ran the hotel there for a while: In many ways, it was like living in another dimension, not only of sight and sound but of mind; living in a wonderous landscape whose boundaries are those of the past.
Only one bobble-hatted man had the courage to shine a light on this world between the worlds.
