A sad day - the final book club pick by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is finally here. It is Ghost Town by Tom Perrotta.

It's a bit strange to read this book if you've seen (and loved) the tv- series (twice) beforehand.

I kept thinking i'd knew where this was going, but the book is a lot less abstract and more straightforward in it's storytelling then the series.

Still very well-written, a easy read, and consistently entertaining.

My first book by Perrotta, won't be my last.

THE LEFTOVERS - Svaniti nel nulla (2014 - 2017)
Il 14 Ottobre 2012 il 2% della popolazione mondiale misteriosamente scompare, in un solo attimo, senza lasciare alcuna traccia. Forse è l'avverarsi di una profezia biblica descritta nell'Apocalisse di Giovanni? L'evento crea fratture profonde nell'umanità e noi spettatori assistiamo inquieti... https://www.vaevedi.it/2020/10/the-leftovers-svaniti-nel-nulla-2014.html

Read my ★★★★ review of #TomPerrotta's 1998 #Election, which I revisited because of recently reading its 30-years-later sequel, "Tracy Flick Can't Win." https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/50657390

4/5: 2022 reads, #39. I recently read and enjoyed Tracy Flick Can't Win, Tom Perrotta's 30-years-later sequel to the first big hit of his career, Election (published in 1998 but set in 1992, during the Monica Lewinsky scandal); and so that was just enough to jump on the Chicago Public Library website and check out the original Election again, especially considering that it was originally my very first Perrotta read of my life, back in 1999 right after Alexander Payne's much funnier movie version first came out, the film that first made a big star out of Reese Witherspoon. And indeed, that's an i...

Jason Pettus's review of Tracy Flick Can't Win

4/5: 2022 reads, #33. I'm a fan of Tom Perrotta, and have read now almost every novel he's ever written, even though I admit that he's also inconsistent (The Abstinence Teacher and Mrs. Fletcher will almost never be revisited by future readers again, I think), and that it's honest to say that most of the TV and movie adaptations of his work (including Little Children and The Leftovers, among others) are actually better than the books themselves, because Perrotta is great at setting things up but only so-so at knocking them down. So that's why I was excited to hear that he'd recently written a se...

Reading #TomPerrotta's latest this weekend, the #Election sequel #TracyFlickCantWin, and as the kids say, it's giving me all the feels
He terminado la segunda temporada de #TheLeftovers, y aunque estoy seguro que en su día #DamonLindelof y #TomPerrotta sabían muy bien como iba a terminar la historia, a mi me tienen muy muy loco.
