Ugh, developing Z80 asm programs for the TI-83 is... tricky. Almost all the docs and downloadable files are oriented for the TI-83 Plus (TI-83+), which are NOT compatible. This article titled "Z80 Assembly programming for the TI-83" is actually only for the TI-83+ and does not work on the TI-83 🤦 : https://www.chibiakumas.com/z80/ti83.php .

Almost all the example code and existing programs use a defunct, shareware, windows-only assembler from like 2002 and a pair of DOS linkers. 1/n

The TI-83 Guidebook ( manual ) is pretty great, it includes an alphabetical listing of all the built in functions which can all be used in Basic programs.

Here is also a very rudimentary program to generate a grid of letters for a game like Boggle in 8 lines.

Hurrah! I ran a chisel-tipped soldering iron along the ribbon connecting the main board to the display board a few times. The display is now perfect!
