Imagine without all my firewall blocking shit, this would easily be 10x that amount a day. I, personally, could not afford to keep the site running. I pay for this out of pocket, that's 2x higher up on the host packages, roughly $35x mo. 10 times what I am currently paying to just have an art site up.

You want to know why no one does this anymore? Who the fuck has the time or money to do it? Then look at all your tax dollars that go into infrastructure to supprot bots and scrapers fucking up what used to be a wonderful net. The electricity, mining of coal, the land, water, all that. People are bitching about those giant server farms going in, we could stop that by just having no fucking need for it.

Fuck this future we never wanted.

@revspace After a few days of work, implementing 3 missing libc functions, repairing an extra 4MB of RAM, hacking around toolchain issues, we finally got Lynx 2.8.2 compiled and running on the VAX-11/750 (in 4.3 BSD Quasijarus)! That means we got to browse the (non-HTTPS) web using no equipment or parts newer than 1986 this side of the network (besides the AUI 10Base-T phy).

I feel like I spend a lot of time in Mastodon sort of feeling a little lost and disconnected, but thatā€™s beautiful in the same way it was when I was first trying to figure out Veronica and Telnet and Gopherspace and Usenet and that new weird World Wide Web thing from CERN and it seemed like almost anything was possible and that neat things would soon ensue, which, in fact, turned out to be the case.
