The Loft
We have been at this point. There is the kinda magic Saturday time warp anomaly called @RetropartyVienna in @theloftvienna , and it takes you back to some past golden age when the world was only mad in a good way. And since the Retro Party had its 22nd birthday a short while ago, I made a A2 big one this weekend. As a present for the past. See, it is all about time here.

Ten Years, by The Loft

from the album Everything Changes Everything Stays The Same

The Loft

The Loft are an English indie band, whose debut single was one of the earliest releases on Creation Records.
History

Formed in 1980 as The Living Room by Peter Astor (vocals, guitar), Bill Prince (bass), Andy Strickland (guitar) and Dave Morgan (drums), the band changed its name when they discovered a local music venue also called The Living Room. The venue was being run by Alan McGee, with whom The Loft struck up a friendship and played several gigs for. After signing to McGee's fledgling Creation Records label, the debut single "Why Does the Rain?" was issued in 1984. "Up the Hill and Down the Slope" was issued the following year, earning both band and label some critical success.

Peter Buck, Warzone Earth, 2015 on Mississippi Records

This is the third solo album from the former R.E.M. guitarist, all on Portland OR’s Mississippi Records. Frequent Buck collaborators present here include Scott McCaughey, Kurt Bloch, and William Rieflin. Buck’s wife Chloe Johnson adds harmony vocals on “Saturday Sunday Monday” and Jeff Tweedy guests on “World Spins Around You.”

It’s a mixed bag – I love Peter Buck but sometimes think he needs an editing eye – but some great stuff.

Recorded at Type Foundry in Portland by Adam Selzer.

My copy, with the “Helicopter” cover, via Crossroads Records in Portland OR – there’s also a version with a “Car” cover.
