✨ What a week at #RSECon25 at the University of Warwick! ✨

I got to meet and connect with three communities close to my heart:
💜 #RLadies
💻 #RSEng
📚 #TheCarpentries

This year I wasn’t just attending—I also volunteered 🪄. Such a joy to give back and be part of the buzz.

Next year it’s #RSECon26 in Sheffield 🎉 — who’s coming? Drop a 🐧 if you’ll be there!

#Nonprofit Refuses $1.5M #Science #Grant Due To New Federal #DEI Rules
#TheCarpentries, a nonprofit that has trained over 100,000 researchers in coding and data skills, turned down a $1.5 million #NSF grant after being asked to strip diversity-related content from its programming. For an organization with just three months of cash on hand, it was a decision that threatens the organization’s very existence.

📢 Affirming Our Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.

The Carpentries has always been committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible community. In light of growing global challenges to efforts that support diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility—including the impact of the recent U.S. Executive Order on related programs—we want to reaffirm our stance.

💡 Creating inclusive and equitable learning spaces is essential to open science and open education—not radical, wasteful, or preferential.

For 27 years, our community has built pathways to make learning more accessible, research more reproducible, and collaboration more inclusive. We remain steadfast in that mission.

The Carpentries' Reinforced Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility

Community, As a U.S.-based, global non-profit organisation serving hundreds of thousands of practitioners and advocates who emphasise the critical role of software and data in advancing research, we would be remiss not to speak up about the impact of the U.S. government’s Executive Order on DEI Programs and Preferencing. The impact has been felt globally. Unfortunately, we are witnessing a global trend of attacks on science and initiatives that champion inclusion, equity, diversity, and accessibility. We rarely make public statements, preferring to focus on daily operations that help us achieve our mission. However, the growing impact of the Executive Order has prompted us to reaffirm our position.
