Why do organisations partner with The Carpentries? To build sustainable training capacity for data and computational skills.

Our global community now includes:

72 countries with workshops
5,382 instructors
185 Instructor Trainers
4,950 workshops delivered.

Partnerships can include combinations of:

- Instructor Training seats
- Collaborative Lesson Development training seats
- professional development in digital workforce skills
- consultation and support for building local communities of practice.

The goal is not just to run workshops. It is to help organisations grow their own training communities. Read more in our latest blog post: https://carpentries.org/blog/2026/04/why-partner-with-the-carpentries/

Our impact starts with people. Behind every Carpentries workshop is a community of Instructor Trainers, Instructors, Maintainers, and many other contributors working together to build data and computational skills worldwide. 🌍

Instructor Trainers prepare new Instructors in evidence-based teaching practices. Those Instructors then teach workshops that reach hundreds of learners. That’s the multiplier effect at the heart of The Carpentries.

Our People, Our Impact: How The Carpentries Community Multiplies Skills Worldwide

Our People, Our Impact The impact of The Carpentries has always been rooted in people. Across universities, research institutes, libraries, and organisations around the world, community members are working together to build capacity for teaching foundational data and computational skills. At the center of this work are the people who teach, maintain, and build community around the programs that make our workshops possible. They then go on to introduce The Carpentries to other individuals at their institutions and empower them with the same skills. This is where the multiplier effect begins - one of the main benefits of an institutional Partnership with the Carpentries.

✨ What a week at #RSECon25 at the University of Warwick! ✨

I got to meet and connect with three communities close to my heart:
💜 #RLadies
💻 #RSEng
📚 #TheCarpentries

This year I wasn’t just attending—I also volunteered 🪄. Such a joy to give back and be part of the buzz.

Next year it’s #RSECon26 in Sheffield 🎉 — who’s coming? Drop a 🐧 if you’ll be there!

#Nonprofit Refuses $1.5M #Science #Grant Due To New Federal #DEI Rules
#TheCarpentries, a nonprofit that has trained over 100,000 researchers in coding and data skills, turned down a $1.5 million #NSF grant after being asked to strip diversity-related content from its programming. For an organization with just three months of cash on hand, it was a decision that threatens the organization’s very existence.
