Today: during #hedgewatch in the #Alps near the #Aletsch #glacier we found these glacial #striations. The scratches are probably from the #LittleIceAge .The glacier was much thicker. They are cut in by #rocks at the bottom of the glacier.

As you zoom in with your camera on the erosional features at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley NP (California), you can almost believe you are spelunking and viewing the walls of a cave! The view from Zabriskie Point in Death Valley NP California, with the badlands and Manly Beacon in the foreground, the salt flats in the middle distance and the Panamint Mountains in the distance. A slight artistic finish accentuates the colors and textures. See more here; https://joan-carroll.pixels.com/featured/zabriskie-point-death-valley-np-artistic-joan-carroll.html

Also, why is no one else here excited about seeing the #striations in the #mountains? Is it just because I'm not used to seeing them that it's so cool to me? It is amazing to imagine them sliding and moving and squeezing and folding into their current shapes.

The #glacier went that-a-way

The #striations on this face of the #Ediacaran (ca. 560 Ma) #Squantum Member of the #Roxbury #Conglomerate were probably left by the #Pleistocene #Laurentide ice sheet, which retreated ca. 12 ka. The striations have the right orientation, from northwest to southeast.

The Squantum Member was once interpreted as a (#glacial) #tillite. The most common contemporary model is a peri-#Gondwana #debrite (#turbidite).

I am fascinated by #rock in all forms, the #texture, #pattern, color, design and #striations and this striking, #rocky shoreline with terrific water #reflections was a thrilling discovery on the #KeyRiver #Ontario Canada. This is one of my favorite captures with not only the beautiful detailed rock but the #reflection as well.
