I’ve mentioned Badlands before, some of you will know it well, it’s my local(ish) record shop in Cheltenham. What I didn’t know is that Badlands released records! I came across one a while ago but haven’t got around to playing it until now. It included the press release - this was a reviewers copy that was only played once. It’s a nice piece of lesser known Britpop that should have done a lot better than it did.

It’s good enough to make me want to collect all
of Badlands releases.

Behind the Scenes of 'Badlands' (1973) Featuring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek

The article provides an in-depth look at the 1973 American neo-noir crime drama 'Badlands,' which marked Terrence Malick's directorial debut. Starring Martin Sheen as Kit and Sissy Spacek as Holly, the film follows the story of two young lovers who go on a violent spree across the Midwest in the late 1950s, inspired by the real-life Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate murders. Holly narrates the story with a detached, almost dreamlike tone that contrasts sharply with the violent events unfolding on screen. Produced on a modest budget of around $300,000–$350,000, the film faced financial challenges, even pausing production temporarily so Malick could secure additional funding. Although set throughout the Midwest, the filming primarily took place in southeastern Colorado towns like La Junta and Trinidad. 'Badlands' is celebrated for its lyrical cinematography and its influence on the 'outlaw couple' genre. The film earned Martin Sheen a best actor award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and was later selected for the National Film Registry in 1993, solidifying its status as a classic of American cinema.
