Today: during #hedgewatch in the #Alps near the #Aletsch #glacier we found these glacial #striations. The scratches are probably from the #LittleIceAge .The glacier was much thicker. They are cut in by #rocks at the bottom of the glacier.

Today: during #hedgewatch in #Switzerland we found this deformed #rock. It underwent #ductil #deformation so that this #fold made of #quartz formed. During deformation material can move from the limbs to the hinge so that the hinge becomes thicker.

Today #GeologyWithCats. We found during #hedgewatch many #quartz veins at the #Rosstrape. They formed when #silica rich fluids circulated in #fractures that formed during cooling of the Ramberg #pluton & are now remnants of a #geothermal system.

Today #GeologyWithCats! We found this #drillcore it's a #sandstone. The white layers had large pores with #water in it. When #sediment was accumulated the pressure was growing & finally the water was squeezed out upwards-its a water escape structure.

Today is #VolcanoThursday 😻 During #hedgewatch on #Tenerife I found this #lava piece with bubbles. #Magma contains gas & when it travels to the surface it cools down & pressure drops so the gas is released & makes bubbles.

Today 2a ago my humans met this little #toad during #hedgewatch & found also this piece of #limestone with #fossils. The fossils are stems from #crinoids i.e. small animals also called #sealilies. We love this name
