w00t! The great Render → #StaticHost migration has begun.
In the near future, I expect the vast majority of the @bridgetown sites I run will be hosted there. Nothing against Render, their service has been consistently awesome, but they don't support @Codeberg / Forgejo. And at this point, that's a deal-breaker for me
Hybrid deploys (static + dynamic API) aren't possible with StaticHost.eu, so I may just end up #SelfHosting on a VPS or something. Will cross that bridge later! 😄
I wrote a couple words about the process moving my digital self from the #US to #europe:
https://www.stevefrenzel.dev/posts/i-moved-my-astro-websites-to-europe/
#WebDev #frontend #astro #netlify #StaticHost #strato #UnplugTrump #GitHub #codeberg
@Codeberg @astro Update: One of two websites is online after moving it!
Got a custom domain at #strato and setting it up was very easy, thanks to the straightforward documentation of #StaticHost 💪
Will definitely write an article about it, once my main website has been moved.
I just migrated multiple #GitHub repositories to @Codeberg without ANY problems!
Then I deployed plain websites and @astro to #StaticHost without any problems as well. Incredible!
Now I need to connect a few URLs to https://www.statichost.eu/ and I'm done with migration.
Hey anybody used https://statichost.eu before? Apparently it's an EU static site provider that offers many things Netlify offers like automatic deploys and continuous integration. They apparently offer a global CDN too. Looks promising especially since they claim a focus on privacy. Just hoping maybe a fellow nerd tried them out before :)
#staticHost #staticHosting #webDev #PaaS #git #codeberg #forgejo #gitea #ciCD #gitLFS #staticSite #eu
@theaitch @Codeberg that's what I did in the past, but for some reason, #bunnycdn is much slower than statichost, even when optimizing caching etc.
Beides the lack of #http3, there must be more that #statichost is doing.
I agree. I like #codeberg a lot. I donate.
They have limited resources and the pages server is overwhelmed.
As I started to put pages in to use the doc was slightly discouraging. But one of the main arguments is to turn it off, or at least state its unreliablity up front. I am ready to turn it on. But I'm not going to now.
I'm going to try #statichost and use codeberg for my repos. It doesn't hurt me.
For big projects in need of a site, this seems to be problematic. GitHub and gitlab have spoiled people and raised expectations.
