Placing #Bajor and #Cardassia is giving me fits tonight. Not for the first time either. I just want to find X-Y placements that fit what's been published and broadcast/streamed.

Working on multiple maps of the same region of #StarTrek 's version of our galaxy is fun. It's also research-intensive and time-consuming, especially where keeping the various maps consistent with each other is concerned.

A Candidate for Vanguard Station by DEWLine-Ottawa on DeviantArt

I found out today - or was reminded today, I'm not entirely sure as I've downloaded resources from the IAU on the subject of #starnames in the past year and then neglected to review them carefully - that in 2015, a star in #Monoceros - HD 45652 - was named "LusitΓ’nia", in connection with their Name ExoWorlds programme. The one known planet orbiting it is "Viriato".
I love that this astronomical naming process is picking up speed in my lifetime!

Going slightly nuts over Kiley 279 and Xahea right now. #startrek #mapdesign #starcharts #stellarcartography

I don't think that 42 Ursae Majoris is a good candidate for the Persephone system. It looks like a potential neighbour when you view the galaxy from above/below, sure...

@jswhitten @galaxy_map, @nyrath opinions?

@jab01701mid We know for a certainty that Mira is *in* the Alpha Quadrant. I'm just trying to figure out how we got the placement as published in #StarCharts and #StellarCartography as opposed to what #GaiaMission has told us in more recent years.

#StarTrek #StellarCartography question: when #StarCharts was first designed, was #Sheratan chosen as the host star of #Hanolan?

They seem close on the X-Y plane, and yet I suspect that I'm seeing another artifact of the designers working with #Hipparcos data...?

Well, I thought V442 Ursae Majoris might be a good candidate for Amleth. Looks like that star is too far rimward for my wants. Any alternative suggestions?
