magnolia trees are one of the best parts of spring in Chicagoland. The appearance of the flowers, even before they open are so hopeful and when they bloom, they are so beautiful. But there is a sadness when they blame as well, for they are so short-lived. Their trees that bloom one day and because of fierce winds have few blossoms left the next. But they are incredible and incredibly old!

A blackbird dreaming in spring. I’ve had a rather fraught relationship with some blackbirds this spring. The black birds, I have been contending with are red wing blackbirds, starlings, and the common grackle. I love birds, but these birds eat up all the birdseed and scare away the other smaller birds. For a while, this spring, I fought it banging on the window to scare them away. But then I thought I think there’s more than enough to share and I just started putting out more bird feed now the smaller birds come and the bigger black birds, but there’s enough that no one goes hungry and there’s a better vibe.

My love of pink has blossom in the last five years or so. I think I’ve always loved pink, but when I learned it was the color for girls when I was four or five years old, I decided I hated pink. But now I love pink… in my art at least. And another rabbit appears in yet another one of my collages… maybe. It hasn’t been glued. What do you all think?
