Scenes from a work day; a rolling pin is such a great cheat/tool for putting that little extra bit of curve into mug handles.

October's Patreon ceramics have been sent out and should all be in their happy little homes by now, so follow along for a couple of days as I show you what I made and how I did it!

The tortoise soaking tub has made it into the kiln! It was touch and go for a bit because while I remembered to make it small enough to fit in the kiln, I forgot to take into account room for my hands while I was putting it in there. Fortunately there was a little space, and I got it in there without breaking it! Next stage? Fire the kiln and hope it doesn't blow up in the kiln! I hope I'm not jinxing it by already thinking about how I want to glaze it…

I've been away, so haven't done a lot of pottery of late, but these are fresh out of the glaze kiln. Silly little pinch pot animals for some family members at their request.

Narrator: It was at this point she started to regret her choices.

I mean, I can't make the lip as wide as I want, because it won't fit in my kiln. I can't make the tub any smaller/less wide, because my tortoise won't fit in it. I'm going to have to flip it over in order to clean up the underside of the lip I'm putting on around the walls, but then flip it back right-side up for drying.

Scenes from a work day; I need about three hands to be able to do this with any sort of grace. Alas, I do not have any extra limbs, so I'm doing the best I can by leaning the walls up on things as I stand above and move around (rather than spin the banding wheel) as I add sections of wall and see what parts need reinforcement and/or just some blending of seams.

The next step of making a large tortoise soaking tub is realizing that I can't make the drop just… straight down. I want it pretty deep, but I also don't want the tortoise to just fall in and get stuck - this isn't like The Sims when you take the ladder out of the pool.

I know you're all going to be thrilled to watch me try and make a soaking tub for one of my tortoises this week. If it turns out, I'll have to make another, but I'm going to just do one this week because I'm winging it and have no idea what I'm doing. Yay! Let's have fun!
