The most frustrating thing in any software: Spell checking. I don't want it, I don't need it - why do folks force it and have no way to disable it? (Electron, looking at you)
The worst are the AppImages for Linux for apps where typing is a necessity and as I use multiple languages the spell checker is definitely not wanted. When there are no way to disable it, I often need to write my own software wrapper for those apps. FML.
TIL: The #Signal desktop app on #Linux supports #spellchecking in multiple languages, but there is no selection UI. You can, however, list multiple locales in the LANGUAGE environment variable, delimited by colons. The first one selects the interface language. For example:
LANGUAGE=en_US:de_DE
will give you a US English interface and spell checking in US English and German (Germany).
No need to install anything, Signal will download dictionaries on first use.

Regardless of whether your first language is English, always check your spelling with your favorite spell-checker and leverage the power of Grammarly or similar tools, to ensure everything is OK.
