Most recently a player retrieved a spellbook hidden in a lightning-blasted tree stump in a swamp - a glass eye and magnifying glass in a leather pouch. She needs the magnifying glass to read the spells, etched in tiny runes on the glass. The previous owner actually used the eye, lol. #ttrpg #worldbuilding #magic

What's neat to me about #grimoires and #spellbooks are understanding the thoughts and reasoning behind #spells, and what knowledge informed those decisions and #magical thinking.
Here's a spell you can inscribe on a plate and throw into a fire to extinguish it! Keep a backup fire extinguisher on hand just in case 😜 this is from "Long Lost Friend", possibly the first American #grimoire
Anyway this is why I recommend translated and annotated editions, no need to redo the work unless the only available translation is really bad or biased
