The third book this year finally in my hands after a delay in delivery! It is the translation of the orientation for the field of network research: "Twelve basic assumptions of network research" into English.
In addition, the second edition of the "Handbuch Netzwerkforschung". An English-language edition is also being produced for this.
And also my "Sociology from the saddle. The bicycle as pet, criminal and lifestyle icon" my favorite project.

Boys don't cry? How picture books can teach gendered ideas about pain

@ftripodi This week, we were pleased to have UNC Chapel Hill sociologist and media scholar @ftripodi, winner of the 2023 CIP Award for Impact & Excellence, visit the @uwcip in Seattle and join CIP director @katestarbird for a special discussion about Tripodi’s 2022 book, “The Propagandists’ Playbook,” and the research that went into it.

We look forward to sharing highlights from their conversation in an upcoming article.

#Halloween intersecting with my research. The woman described as a #Cajun in #Hatchet2 would have an incredibly hard time being accepted as Cajun given that she'd likely be considered #Black. Cajun identity is not singular -- Cajuns come from all sorts of backgrounds -- but Black and Cajun are effectively mutually exclusive categories today.

“Those who cannot hear the signal worship the static.”

Every culture has its echo-lords: those who bend noise until it sounds like mass.
For a while, people believe in their pull.

The province repeats the line — “he’s the hand behind every decision.”
It sounds grand; it keeps dinner parties interesting.
But everyone quietly knows that real power leaves visible gravity, and he has none.

When direction is lost, repetition replaces truth.
Viral thinkers master resonance; genius thinkers master silence.
One manipulates gravity’s rumor, the other shapes its field.

A Schelling point is a solution people naturally pick when they need to coordinate but can’t communicate.

The classic example is the flagpole at an American high school. If you and your friends have not discussed a meeting place, that’s where you go. Other examples include the entrance at a crowded festival or Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

The concept is named after the economist […]

'Why did they run from the police?': 20 years after two French teens' deaths, the question is as relevant as ever.

For many people of colour, fleeing a police stop has become a reflex.

Sociologists say this risky behaviour stems from the rise in incidents of police violence.
