New research assessing resource use as a predictor for #Atlanticsalmon #smolt body size using #StableIsotopes: doi.org/10.1111/jfb.70142 #JFB
These interesting devices, technically called rotary screw traps (RST) or auger trap, are passive sampling gear, using water flow to capture and retain downstream migrating #fish. It works using an Archimedes screw as its central axis.
It is commonly called a smolt wheel because it targets the small #smolt stage of #Salmon for counts and non-lethal collection. They have been deployed extensively in Pacific coast, Atlantic Canada, and in the #GreatLakes.
