I spent the weekend obtaining an official certification that I've put extra work into being qualified to teach skiing to older adults. PSIA-Northwest is the only region to currently offer a Senior Specialist program, which I find sad. There's a lot of good information in it.

Although most ski lessons are for kids, my personality has resulted in my school channeling a lot of middle aged and older students my way. I say I specialize in helping me's - moderately unathletic, nervous people who want to ski without feeling scared all the time or getting hurt. It's good to have more tools for us.

The season is over now, but I hope to apply this more next season.

My next ski instructor related task is going to be writing an essay about being a non-neurotypical instructor and why PSIA needs a program to educate instructors on how to teach the community. But I'm still too exhausted from the weekend to get started on it.

Today I taught the last lesson of six with a pair of adorable and sweet sisters I feel really lucky to have gotten a chance to work with. I'm going to miss them.

Ski instruction can be exhausting and has its frustrations, but I love that I get to help people grow and have fun.

One of my students asked me how old I am tonight and when I told her asked, "How can you be older than my mom?"

My answer?

"By being born before she was."

Took my daughter's partner out for their first attempt at skiing today!

Their surfer instincts served them well and despite the challenging conditions, they made terrific progress. And best of all, they had enough fun they want to do it again!

I need to re-waterproof my gloves. I left today's lesson with wrinkled fingers...

But despite the rain, I had a lot of fun. My Monday students are really sweet and a blast to ski with. Today was all smiles with no tears. And they're losing the pizza in their turns. Huzzah!

Gotta get ready to go teach. I'm not exited about the damp fog, but I an excited to get to see my students and help them get more comfortable on chair-serviced terrain.

Skied with my daughter today. At one point, I was facing an intimidating drop and she talked me through it with the exact words I talk my students through unloading the lift.

She started teaching before me and has been on skis since she was 2, so is way better than me at all this.
