Printempo alvenis. Ĝi fariĝas vere streĉa laŭ la valaj skivojo.

#esperanto nonsense
pasaĝero = passenger
-ero = a singular piece of something
therefore
pasaĝo = (passenger) traffic
Current English-to-Esperanto workflow:
Use the Esperanto words I know, translate words I don't know individually (with translate-shell), and put it all together. Then run it through translation back into English to make sure it all makes sense. Only translate the entire sentence/post into #Esperanto if I'm really not sure if it makes sense.
Current Esperanto-to-English workflow:
Copy the source text to an editor window, and construct a translation "trot" by translating every word I know, and using the translator to look up the words I don't know. Then massage the trot so it makes sense as English sentences, then run the entire post through the translator to see how close my translation was.
So, basically, I only use the translator for individual words at first, then phrases and sentences at the end. Hoping this helps make the language stick.
Recursion usually scares me a bit, but it worked out nicely here:
#convert "cx"-style Esperanto notation to native accents (ĉ)
function eaccent {
if [[ ${1:-} ]]; then
echo "$*" |eaccent
else
sed 's/cx/ĉ/g; s/gx/ĝ/g; s/hx/ĥ/g; s/jx/ĵ/g; s/sx/ŝ/g; s/ux/ŭ/g; s/C[xX]/Ĉ/g; s/G[xX]/Ĝ/g; s/H[Hx]/Ĥ/g; s/J[Xx]/Ĵ/g; s/S[Xx]/Ŝ/g; s/U[Xx]/Ŭ/g'
fi
}
#bash #unix #shell #scripts #scripting #UnixShell #ShellScripting #Esperanto
If you're a monoglot (in terms of actual fluency) like myself, #Esperanto is nice because it's very easy to learn (for those who's language is in the European language family), and I think can help wire your brain for language learning.
Also, its just so ruddy idealistic and optimistic, I couldn't resist. 🤣
#Duolingo honestly sucks (as an organization), but it's helpful to learn Esperanto. You can view their gamification as "evil corporation trying to addict you to the platform" or as "they're trying to make it as fun and nearly brainless (stress-free) as possible, so you actually stick with it, unlike the Pimsleur audio course you bought 13 years ago." 😄
