Q: What’s the difference between Chai: The Gay Kibbutz, Chai: Simcha Gay, and Chai: Ahavah Gay?

A: There are two primary differences between our instances — software and federation.

The Kibbutz runs Akkoma, Simcha Gay is Sharkey, and Ahavah Gay is Mastodon.

With regards to federation, both The Kibbutz and Simcha Gay federate with the same policies, while Ahavah Gay is allowlist only.

All instances allow registration, with a reason provided!

I'm going to keep saying what I think the majority of the users of #babka and #simcha instances believe(both #Jewish oriented) --- that #defederation is a step too far.

There are better, less severe actions that can be taken instead (silencing, etc) that would allow individual users of both instances to maintain connections with folks on the other instance, without being at risk of randomly stumbling across posts that violate the norms of one's chosen instance.

Just heard about the #defederation drama in the Jewverse and that old joke came to mind.

a Jew in a small fishing boat crashed to an isolated island. Years later, when a rescue team arrived the found there 2 synagogues. They asked the fisherman why he needs 2 synagogues and he replied:

"to one I am going every day and the other I'm boycotting".

As part of the fallout of the Jewish Fedi drama (mutual defederation of the #Babka and #Simcha instances), we had to move our account to a new instance, so are friends on Simcha and Babka can both find us.

Our new home is the okpeace.org instance, a small self-hosted server by @jmb.
