Sima Cunningham is one half of the outstanding duo Finom where she has been creating off-kilter art pop with her long time collaborator Macie Stewart. Her 2024 solo work, High Roller, on the other hand, puts a more down to earth side of the artist on display with songs that are stylistically diverse for sure, but also come with an overtly traditional bend. There are indeed some Finom-like moments here and there, but the album draws quite heavily from a deep well of conventional pop with elements of folk and jazz, plus some soft rock crossover appeal, and interesting, country type steel guitar action sprinkled here and there.
