Why are sharks important?
Simply put, #sharks are vital to maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem. "Sharks stop disease from spreading by preying on the sick and dying. They keep populations strong and vibrant by taking out the weak and slow. Sharks are the major driving force behind natural selection in the ocean realm. Their presence often dictates behavior of other species, which in turn regulates how reef fish, sea turtles and other grazers behave. And that has consequences in how healthy reefs and sea grass beds are maintained." Furthermore, through their migrations and diving behavior, sharks also help cycle nutrients between different locations and the depths and shallow. The ripple effects of an ocean without sharks could be far-reaching and devastating for marine life and life on land.

Shark Allies is a non-profit originally established in 2007 in Hawaii, and advocates for the global protection of sharks through various campaigns and programs - from education to legislation. We are beyond grateful for their efforts, and proud to show our support for them.

If you are not in a position to donate but would like to contribute to saving sharks (and other animals), the biggest thing you can do is to adopt a #PlantBased diet and #vegan lifestyle. Bycatch from the fishing industry is a major cause of shark decline, and overfishing in general leads to the collapse of fisheries and ecosystems that sharks need to survive. By removing animals from your diet and not purchasing products with ingredients derived from animals, you are reducing the demand for these harmful and exploitative systems.
