Nachdem die Serpent-OS-Entwickler ihre Distribution in AerynOS umgetauft hatten, liegt jetzt die erste Version unter dem neuen Namen als fertiges ISO-Image vor. Die befindet sich allerdings immer noch im Alpha-Stadium und ist somit eher als Vorschau zu betrachten. AerynOS 2025.03 bringt immerhin recht aktuelle Software mit. So kommt als Desktop-Umgebung GNOME 48.0 zum Einsatz, im Hintergrund arbeitet Linux 6.13.8 und ins Internet geht Firefox 136.0.2. Das System existiert ausschließlich in einer 64-Bit-Fassung für x86-Prozessoren. Wer bereits Serpent OS nutzt, kann mit folgendem Befehl sein System auf AerynOS umstellen: sudo moss sync -u Anschließend ist ein Aufruf von „sudo moss sync“ notwendig, um die Migration abzuschließen. In AerynOS haben die Entwickler vor allem die Namen und Begriffe geändert. Betroffen sind hiervon insbesondere die Domainnamen der Repositorys. So wechselt etwa „packages.serpentos.com“ zu „packages.aerynos.dev“. Die Dokumentation ist zudem ab sofort unter „aerynos.dev“ zu erreichen. Das installierte AerynOS gibt unter „/usr/lib/os-info.json“ Auskunft über seine Version. Wie die Dateiendung andeutet, liegen die Daten dabei im JSON-Format vor. Aus dieser Datei erstellt dann das Tool „moss“ wiederum die Textdatei „/usr/lib/os-release“. In ihrer Ankündigung der neuen Version bitten die AerynOS-Macher um Spenden über den Dienst Ko-fi. Die Gründe für die Umbenennung hatten die Entwickler bereits im Februar dargelegt.

Same project, just much, much better. Grab the latest 2025.03 ISO with GNOME 48, HDR support, Linux 6.13.8 and a bunch of updates and polishing.
For users who want to try #Linux, I recommend this: Do not listen to people who tell you to use #Ubuntu, #LinuxMint or other variants. They all use the same complex and often breaking mechanisms, and can cause a lot of hassle.
Instead, I recommend these systems:

- #HeliumOS
Cool too: #SerpentOS, and I switched to #NixOS.
These systems are reliable like an Android phone, while offering you more freedom.
