I've been talking with local business owners that host live music about the fees they pay to PROs (Performance Rights Organizations).

Across the board, the sentiment is that these orgs and how they operate are:

- Too complex to understand
- Operate largely on a venue's fear of litigation if they DON'T pay their fees
- Not transparent AT ALL in how much (or which) artists even get paid

There is renewed questioning whether the AV1 & AV2 codecs are patent encumbered and royalty-free or not pending the outcome of the Dolby vs. Snapchat lawsuit. I already use the AV1 codec and it works well. I'd be disappointed if it was no longer a royalty-free option.
